I want to install a temp gauge, but I don't want to cut the line and install a bulky adapter. Wanted something a little cleaner and more factory looking. Was looking over the engine compartment and came up with an idea. Not sure if it will work for sure or not.
Was thinking about pulling out the factory sending unit that screws in just below the thermostat. Screw in a small t-fitting there that has 1/2 npt for the factory sending unit and 1/2 npt on the "t". Then neck the temp gauge sending unit from 1/2 npt to 1/8 npt. I am just wondering if I will get enough fluid flow through there to get accurate readings.
What does everyone think.
Also analog or digital?

Digital and yes I would think you should get close enough readings there. To test get someone with a laser thermometer to check it there against your readings.

laser thermometer........good idea! You bet, as soon as I get it figured out and installed I will post some pics. Have nothing else to do since it is too freaking warm out and not much snow. Might as well work on it.

I like The digtal. I also have been cheching into option for a temp gauge . I would be very intrested if your plan works. The splice is the best I come up with so far. I found a place that have some nice looking ones, But still would be better your way.

Might not want to pull the factory sending unit. I had potential issues with doing that when installing my temp gages. Not sure on the Vector, just thought I'd throw this out.
I am VERY interested in putting in a temp gage. Digital would be cool, but anything that's clean will do. Keep us posted!!!

Those gages you have pictured look like Autometer and Dakota Digital or similar. I was warned by reps from both those mfgs. that the gages may not hold up well in a snowmobile application. They are not designed for oudoor use and the temp variations. You may want to check with the gage mfg of choice.

undecided......what were the potential issues. With voiding the factory warranty? Because I had thought of that as well, and was going to ask my dealer about what all would void the factory warranty if adding a temp gauge.
az99.....what brand gauges are people putting in then that would work? I thought most of what I had seen on this forum were autometers.

Stormchaser..........that is the brand of digital gauge that I have pictured above. I just sent an email off to the company to see what they say about the snowmobile application. Will let you know if I find anything out.

it was on a Polaris...you didnt want to discon the factory sensor cuz it would mess up the computer...it sensed overheat and retarded the timing. only way I would put a temp gage in my Vector is to put an inline sensor after the thermostat...why take any chances?

undecided......were you thinking that I would remove the factory sensor completely? Because I was not going to do that. Was going to take the fitting out put in a T and reinstall the factory one as well as the sensor for the gauge.
