hey guys
I'm wondering what do the stamps on the connecting rods stand for on a 05 vector? Mine has 6E stamped on them. I know the 6 is used to find your bearing size but what is the letter for? I'm trying to buy used connecting rods but they have a different letter stamped in them. I'm unsure if I can use them or do they all have to have the same numbers . Any help would be great!

Man, I thought I was a badass for replacing all of my driveshaft bearings and redoing the exhaust and chaincase last year. You're taking this rebuild thing to a whole new level! Outstanding! I've never read of a single person rebuilding these engines. My first thought...call Port Yamaha. Second, try Travis at Barn of Parts. Third....did they really change connecting rods from one year to another on these engines? Good luck and let us know of your progress! KCYA!

The part numbers on the connecting rods on the Yamaha parts fiche is the same for the 05-07 vectors so I'm confused. Next thing is to call Yamaha. I'm just waiting on my crank to come back from repairs since I spun the middle rod bearing. I was talking to Travis he has connecting rods for a vector but they are 6f , mine are 6E. He thinks it has something to do with bearing sizing but far as I know the 6 on the connecting rod is for the bearing sizing because you subtract the web number on the crank to get your bearing size. If I went into detail about that here is an example. Yamahas connecting rod bearing formula goes like this in the manual. Connecting rod number subtract (-) crankshaft web number subtract (-) 1. So mine is 6-2-1=3 brown for my connecting rod bearing so the bottom line is I don't know what the letter stands for on the connecting rod haha it's always something that gets thrown in my way but better to find out rather then doing all of this work for nothing! Lol have a good one

That may be the match between rod and cap or possibly if Yamaha has different location their parts come out of it might identify it. The important thing is to make sure that you plastic gauge the rod bearing fit to the crank so that you know it has the proper clearance.
