im running a 09 nytro mtx and am changing it to a 144. going to run the backcountry inch and 3/4. which drivers should i go with extroverts or use the factory xtx drivers?
I'd go with 9 tooth 2.52 Avid's. You have it all apart, might as well put good drivers on it now. Have been hearing more and more people talking that Wahl's do the job as well.

Im running the Doo extros on mine with a 180 turbo kit. 3000 kms on them so far, and still looks new.

X3, wahl's work just as well, but from my personal experience and comparing 3 sleds, 1 with avids and 2 with wahl's, the wahl's were wearing a lot more. Maybe they stopped wearing after they "broke in" but the sleds are sold now, so I can't say.
If money is tight, buy the wahl's. Just don't let your track get too loose and wear them out prematurely.
Avid's all the way. This is how lose I run my track. No racketing, and the drivers still look mint.

I just ordered the backcountry as well, and it says nothing has to be changed. Do the factory XTX drivers work well enough?

I switched to the Backcountry track last year and did not have any problems with the stock drivers on my XTX. No ratcheting in the deep powder or on full acceleration on hard packed snow. For me on my non-boosted Nytro the stock drivers work fine.
HOWEVER having extrovert drivers are nice because you can run your track looser (as demonstrated by Bamboo). I have never ran extrovert drivers but will get some if my stock drivers wear out. Or if I end up with a turbo in the future I will likely switch to extrovert drivers just to handle the extra power.
I see a top speed around 98 - 99 MPH on my speedo with stock gearing, clutching and the Backcountry track. I lost a fair bit of top end... but it is night and day when you get off trail now.

Sorry my mistake... saskattakman!
You have an MTX... so if you need to buy drivers anyway I would suggest just getting some extrovert drivers and then you're done with it. Unless you have a line on a set of stock XTX drivers for cheap... then you need to make a judgment call.
Sorry for the confusion.

saskattakman, let me know if you want a factory XTX axle and drivers. I'm going to switch mine out for one from Ulmer's and will have the stock one sitting here.

Why not switch to 8 tooth, 2.52 pitch extro vert drivers? Will be like gearing down a half of a gear for a little more low end power...

Yes, the factory drivers work fine.
Edit. The stock XTX drivers work fine.
