Got my 2011 Apex SE all serviced and ready for the upcoming season. Mods to date are Ulmer Racing PCV with Ulmers Air box mod, D&D bullseyes in airbox lid, Ulmer Racing Clutch kit, Curve XS skis, 13mm sway bar, 153 studs, GPS with RAM mount and Lake Effect 2 1/2 riser. Wondering what else I might wanna do and/or try to improve performance and handling? Only thing else I'm gonna do is check and reset my toe because I had alot of darting last year with the Curve skis. Anyone else running Curves what did you find as the best setup? I personally like the Megafloat and Fox Floats up front. A little stiff in the rear but like it that way instead of bottoming out especially the way I ride which is Hard and very Aggressive. I may mess around with the clutching some and try a set of HC 2 speeds I have laying around. Always liked the 2 speeds even over the dragnflie weights. So am I pretty well setup other than more HP/TQ of course or is there anything else I may wanna try. Ride safe but ride like HELL and let the snow fly

Get yourself some Yamaha Engine Med RX to keep the engine performing at its best ! i take it with me and add at every fill up.

Already done. Have faithfully done this since I the stuff came out and also use Seafoam religiously too.

Go fast mods always seem to boil down to the same thing. How fast do ya wanna go and how much do ya wanna spend? In simple terms, usually the more ya spend the faster ya go. Yamachargers push them things up around 170 hp for bout $2200. Pretty good hp per dollar.

If you aren't bottoming out the suspension every so often it is set too hard. Can't really remember where i heard that before, but it makes sense.

Yup I have curve skis and deal with the darting issue also. I have set alignment how they tell u to with there specs several times and can't seem to get it completely gone. Even tried there leading edge thing and that didn't get rid of it either. Kinda sucks u can't put deuce bars on them. My set up is very similar to yours I have new shocks this year I'll c how it is when we get some snow :sled1:

Mmmm....... 20 HP for $2200 is a good HP per dollar ratio? $110 per HP does not sound all that good to me. Seems like a real supercharger or turbo would yield a much better HP per dollar ratio IMO.

If horsepower per dollar is the main criteria I would agree completely. However, forced induction in not for everyone. Higher initial costs (more than double what the yamacharger costs) and more technical expertise if doing the install yourself. Not to mention much lower gas mileage, more stess on some already marginal parts such as the driveshaft and gear chain & sprockests. Lastly, some people really don't want or need 90 extra horsepower.

BTW hp/dollar the Yamacharger isn't that bad. On my 06 Apex I have the PC III and ignition box, full Excell exhaust, ram-air cover, and clutch kit. All that stuff together came to around $2200. And while it certainly woke up the sled, it by no means gave it 20 extra hp. Most performance tuners would agree that $100 dollars per horsepower is a good baseline to compare engine mods. Anything less than that is great, more than that, not so much.

One thing that enthusiast have to remember is that on the 4-stroke sleds, there is not that much that can be done for more performance. On an Apex you generally have 3 options for increasing performance.

1. Is the route I took with light mods and about 10 extra horsepower.
2. Is the yamacharger for about $2200 and 20 extra hp.
3. Is the highest hp route which is forced induction. But also the most costly and technically challenging. Which leads back to my original statement about how fast does one want to go. The sky's the limit with mods and performance.
