Hi guys. I was spinning in some soft sand the other day and all of a sudden one tire got traction and I heard a snap. Then I only had power to one rear wheel so I tracked it to the inner cv joint. I took it apart and when I took the clamp off the inner cvboot the shaft just slid right out. I inspected it and found that I had ruied part of the splines but there is about one inch of spline on the end of the shaft and only about 1/3 of the spline was ruined so it obviously wasnt in the cv joint any farther than that or more spline would have been ruined. I ordered a new half shaft today but when I put this back together what holds the half shaft into the cv joint?? Does it just set in there or is there something that should have held it in place?? lemme know asap Im gunna try to get it back together for the weekend. Thanks!!!

on cars there is a snapring that sits on a grove in the end of the shaft. it is very stiff usually.
a pic of the damage might help as well.
