Hi!

My friend dimebag gave me an Innovation AFR gauge kit for christmas!! :jump:

So now I wonder what manual boost controller I should go with.

Dimebag is using a Voodoo controller, it works great but you have to loosen a set nut in order to adjust the pressure which basically isnt a problem but I dont want to mess around with a little wrench everytime I want to adjust the pressure.

It would be cool to have one where you just twist a knob and leave it there.

Like this for example:

Problem here is that you use the soft spring up to 5psi, and then the stiff above 5 psi. Which means that it wount be suitable for me since I will be running between 4-6 PSI, atleast thats what I think.

Here is the type that dimebag uses:

Cheap and all, but I do not like the lock nut. Am I just being a jerk?

The one above is self locking but it also comes with two different springs and it doesnt say what pressures each spring is made for.

Here is one that might be OK:

Since I am as skeptical as I am, since it has such a wide band of adjustment, can it be in accurate at lower pressures?

I guess all these adjusters are ment to be installed in a nice environment engine compartment in a car, wonder if they can freeze up and stop working on a snowmobile?

What are you guys running?

I'm going to use the hallman manual boost control. I think they are about 89 $ and easy to turn knob.

Actually I do think I am missing some knowledge on turbo/wastegate function.

If I removed the manual adjuster and let the hose go directly to the wastegate, would the spring tension in the wastegate determine when the wastegate would open?

Would it be pre-set to open at a certain base-pressure lets say 4psi?
So the pressure that actuates the wastegate is the same pressure that is in the intake.

So, when adding a manual controller you restrict the airflow to the wastegate so it doesnt open, and when the pressure is high enough to raise the ball/spring in the manual controller, the wastegate opens and the pressure is controlled.

Am I wrong?

No I'm making a custom kit. On my apex mtx. See my thread I the 4 stroke garage.

OK I see but you will probably be running much higher boost so you wount run into the spring-conflict. Btw cool project!

Actually I am only going to run 6lbs of boost so I am. Going to use a 4 lb spring in the waste gate and manual boost it up to. 6. Or 7. And then when I go out west I can turn the boost up some more.

OK I see! The hallman will probably suit you perfect then. I think I will go with the Grimmspeed, it looks like a good quality product.

Hey, everybody across the pond is talking about lbs when it comes to boost pressure, but I cant find a way to convert lbs to psi? Am I stupid?

You can't convert pounds (lb) to pounds per square inch (psi).
One is force and one is pressure.

I believe the correct measurement for air pressure would be psi,
and that in this setting 1 lbs is equal to 1 psi.

Hmm aha ok I see.. why do some guys say lbs instead of psi? What does the lbs letters mean?

1 lbs = 0.45 kilos. Its a measurement of weight/force.

That means that 1 lbs /psi equals about 0.045 bar pressure.

These are rough values, so dont count 100% on them.

X2 on the Hallman Pro RX with a ceramic ball inside.
Worked flawlessly in all sleds I've installed them in.

Rxrider wount the Hallman be a dumb choice for me since the stiffest spring opens at 5PSI and I sometimes at low elevation have to go under 5PSI.

Wount this mean that I wound be able to set the base-pressure any lower thn 5PSI?

Then again with the soft spring I wount be able to go up to the 7 PSI which is the max pressure.
