I just made the move from polaris to Yamaha Apex GT at the end of last season and the guys I ride with are still on Polaris (for now), we do some lake riding but mostly trail and we're always stopping to screw around and drag race. I notice an awfull lot of track spin and that it costing me, they all seem to get me out of the whole and then I have to play catch up to about 80mph.
I need to hook up my new Apex and was wondering what the best way to do this is?
I'm looking for tried and proven results not theorys.
Any help greatly appreciated

Check your transfer rod setting. If you are going to drag race I would think you would want it closer to max. Also if you are not studded forget it you'll never hook up.

I studded my Apex GT with 120 down the middle and I thought it was a great combination of traction and manueverability. If you decide to stud I have 120 Woody's Gold Digger 1.325" studs and 60 Double Digger plates still in the package that I am looking to sell.

If you got the coin.... Dump the ripsaw track and put on a 1" Hacksaw and run 144 1.175 Megabytes up the middle. You will gain midrange and top end from the lightness and because of the penetration of the 1.175 stud to the 1" lug, you will get great traction out of the whole. The problem with the Apex is there is not enough clearance of the ripsaw on to the heat exchangers to run a 1.450 stud. You can run that lenght, but you have to run the track tighter which will slow you down mid and top end because of the extra weight of the stud and because of the tightness of the track. You want to run it with 1 7/8 - 2" of play @20lbs of pull for great top end. Also if you run a 1.450 stud you need to put in addede tunnel protection. About an 1/8 of an inch taller protectors. Another note, just before you going to drag race, adjust the transfer rod to max just like was stated previously. Just my 2cents.

"If you want action, you gotta have traction"
Load up the track with 192 properly sized studs, keep your track nice and loose and practice, practice, practice. Do these things and you'll beat up on the POO guys.

apex rtx studs
I've got a 07 rtx on want to put some studs on. All of my prev. sleds
have had studs. I've found the best combo is 96. Does anyone know
if the rtx has stock tunnel protectors built in? Also will the 96
rip out, I plan on using Woody Gold digger 1.325" w/ aluminum backers
and tall nuts. 96 down the middle only. Thanks for any help.

Go with 144 on the outside and the inside with 1/2 inch of stud past the lug.

Yes it does! Look under the tunnel you will see them.
Twisted428: If you do alot of trail riding then 96 studs down the middle will do the trick, gives you enough play in the turns. It will also provide you enough traction to beat your buddies during a drag. I use 1.325 Woodys with no problems @ 1600 miles

Used the regular nuts, only one broke and a couple with slight bends, very common. 1.325 signature series with alum backers
