Temp
I thought that I read 180-195F somewhere but I just put a gage on mine in the off season so I'll see where it ends up on the first ride.

Mine would ramp up to 205 degrees while driving through a town 210 is when the light comes on so I never saw the light but it was helpful to know just how it was doing. Going down a trail year 170ish was normal.

The thermostat is set to open at 160 F. My sled would consistently run right at 160 F as per the temp gauge I have on the sled. Although I have not experimented with it yet, this is temp. is colder than it should be. There would be an improvement in gas mileage by running it with a 180 thermostat.
Suppose to start opening at 160, and full open at 185. Every one will be a bit different though. 165 or 170 would be normal. 200-210 isn't bad, my kawi klr650's fan only comes on when the rad temp reaches 220f.... something I would like to change.

160 - 195 is normal. If you see more than 200, then it is time to look for some loose snow. And, ... if you know you are going to be running in low snow conditions, then consider packing snow on the running boards. But, don't expect your hyfax to last. Last year, I got stuck on an ice trail for ~ 25 miles. Ended up even packing snow up in over the track too, every now and then. Can't mistake the smell of fryin' hyfax.

Would those flexible ice scratchers help at all???

Ice Scratchers help with cooling and hyfax wear on icy trails, etc.. You just don't want to backup with them down. I had a set on one of my ZRs, back in the days.
This is something I spotted on the yamaha canada website.
