Mighty said:You can look at my signature and see what I'm use to riding. My days of wide open lake running and old railroad grades are most likely over with all of my riding buddies exiting the sport. I can't give up cold turkey and was going to pick up a used viper just to ride around my house and the back 40. This consists of fields with drift filled fence lines, ditch banging and maybe some trail riding in upper lower penninsula of MI. I really hate the idea of going back to a 2-smoke but really need to budget wisely considering that most of this sleds life will be spent in my shop.
Could I be happy with a Phazer? I have seen some really good pricing on some that would be on par with what I would pay for a viper..........
In the trails does it handle well enough to keep up with some of the big iron or is it a lost cause?
Thanks everyone in advance.......
I don't think you could be happy with any sled...you've had them all
Seriously: If I wanted to give up power for long distance comfort - the Phazer would be the way I'd go.

Mighty,
At one time we had the same sled, Apex RTX. This year I bought a Mtn. lite for the wife and I gotta say I have more fun on that sled then mine. Now in the U.P. on rail beds, different story but I don't like ridding that stuff anyways. I did find myself missing the arm rip at 60+ MPH but I didn't feel that with a Viper or FX Nytro anyway's. I'll gladly sacrifice that for the comfort and fun factor anyday. For what your talking about I would get a 08' RTX. 08' because all of the updates have already been done plus shock calibration changes, RTX for the shock package. The nice thing is if you ever wanted to extend it you can just add a 144" tail piece. Also if you ever wanted more H.P.'s you can add reliable low boost down the road and get 120-130. My self I'm not a boost guy but the kits that are out for the Phazer are pretty nice.

Re: Not happy with....Handling, reliability & durability
The Phazer (FX anyhow), lifts the inside ski a lot in turns. Rutted and moguled trails it rocks. On smooth medium and low speed trails it wants to keel over all the time. I ended up adding hothe limiter strap which made it a lot better. Then on thursday my friend offered to let me drive his friends Rev. ZERO ski lift, ZERO bucking from the rear end. No wandering or tippiness. 2 stroke power sucks though, will be tough to go back.
As for reliability, all I will say is it has stranded me 6 times in 4000 miles, and spent 41 days in the shop, all but 1 incident was warranty.

After exhaustive research and finding the following: "Link" in the rear skid busting, poor starting in cold, icing up the tunnel, tippy Handling, Starter failures, overheating issues, Reverse issues I'm gonna have to pass............I know some will say there were updates to all of these issues with maybe the exception of tippyness but I still gotta pass. What long term gremlins may pop up
Thanks for your input

I hear ya. I can live with a few issues like a breaking wire on the Ohlins in the apex/attak GT skid and soft spring that needed to be addressed but this is actually rediculous. Did these problems persist into the 08's?altpeet said:sadly another Phazer owner scared off just because of a few dozen engineering problems![]()
Lets hope not.It looks like they fixed them so far.

But they're only in their first year yet!
Let them grow up to be 2 years old like mine and it will become clear ... PHAZERS ARE HIGH MAINTENANCE SLEDS ... period.
Engineering Design Flaws ... Not my YAMAHA!!!

Mine and many here are 07's this is second full season of riding them.09's are coming out now.Is confusing.
