big boy" with 160-170 hp.???????
OOHHH MAN! Come on Yamaha!

Skydog

Makes sense. While building the new Apex motor from the ground up...yet maintaining it as a 150 HP class sled...Yamie was telling us that they're going to have another future offering to compete in the Mach Z lake blaster class...

They could have easily tweaked another 20-30 ponies out of the Apex motor...had their marketing plans dictated...

Currently...that remains their only segment of the market that they don't have an entry...and there is a clearly defined segment of the market that wants bragging rights to having the fastest thing on the snow... Brand loyalty is of secondary concern to this market...

You want to bring the big dogs over to four-stroke...you better build a big dog... :D

Looks like they will do something if there new R1 is 183 hp im sure they will do some more RD and make more power IE cams, Ram air,who knows. I know artic cat is going all 4 stroke next year gsxr motors in the sleds???

I think they could squeeze out 10-20 horsepower for the 07s, including the RS sleds, which would leave a spot for the new twin four stroker at 100-120 horsepower, I hope. ;)!

Yamaha doesn't move that fast, look in the past.I think there will be only slight changes/improvements to the apex line, with anything new being this new ditchbanger.

nbsledder - I think you are wrong. Remember, 1980 SRX440, 1981 SRX440 new sled, 1982 SRX500 same sled new motor, 1983 VMAX 540 same sled new motor. Then again 1998 SRX 700, 2000 SRX 700 same sled new cylinder and skid design (nothing radically tho), 2002 SXViper 700, 2003 RX-1. The SXR700 did only last 2 model years as well. The Viking is another story with versions I, II, III and now the 4Stroke. Yamaha can and will change fast if they have a strong reason to. IMO Yamaha feel they are onto gaining some considerable market share and thereby pushing hard to outmaneuver the competition. We'll have to wait and see what they're upto on February 13. In the meantime, Happy sledding to everyone and enjoy your ride

Everything I have heard says a new entry level sled and some slight adjustments to the Apex/Attak line up. Remember, Yamaha typically works in 3 year cycles.

Yeah, but that hasent been working for them seeing how they have been last the past few years...
They know the only way to get ahead is to have 3 strong years in a row...06(apex), 07 (ditch banger, lighter apex with a few more poines), and then in 08 the "Big Dog"

Talked to a sales manager last year at the 2006 demo rides. He told me that they were already working on the 2009 model year sleds. He also told me that we haven't seen nothing yet. They were to release somthing radical both in 2007 and 2009, he wouldn't tell me anything of what that would be, obviously.

Absolutely. The strategy is clear. Yamaha has rightly determined that there are too many sled manufacturers in this market to survive. Continuing mild, snowless winters will accelerate the demise and ultimate consolidation in the industry. Things are setting up for Cat and Polaris to become one within the next year or two...

Yamaha has precipitated a paradigm shift in the industry with their launch of the RX1. It will go in history as one of the boldest, most influential sleds ever produced. The sleeping Giant woke up...and decided one day they were going to flex their dominant muscles and capture leadership of this market...

What they are doing now is implementing the most aggressive technology driven period of advancement this industry has ever seen. Four stroke is clearly the way of the market...and Yamaha has indeed CREATED the four stroke market. What they are doing now with their accelerated new model/new technology introduction is putting their heel to the jugular of their competition...as they scramble to try to even ENTER the market in the wave of the four stroke future...

Capture every segment of the market...with no competition...and you become the King who dictates the fortunes of it's competition... Classic leverage of scale... ;)!

Stormbringr1 - awesome post - couldn't agree more - Yamaha has shown this time, and time again in every arena that they play - once they make up their mind to be the best at something they go all out - I think the next few years are going to be totally awesome in regards to what we see from Yamaha - the competition is not going to know what hit them - personally, I think the only real competition they would have would be if Honda really did decide to get into the market!

nbsledder :) We're all in for a surprise I guess, 11 days and counting :) Maybe we're all wrong LOL
