What the dealer told me about the new '07's ..............

I think you guys seriously underestimate the resources available to BRP and Polaris if you think that Yamaha can put them away. Cat on the other hand had better come up with something really good real soon. They have a pretty loyal following, but they have got to make their decision about 2 stroke or 4 stroke and make it fast. If they go 4 stroke it had better be able to compete with or beat an Apex right out of the box or they are in big trouble.

BRP is no loger part of Bombardier Corporation as is was sold out a few years back because of large red numbers in the Bombardier Corporation. Bombardier sold BRP because they wanted to focus on their core businesses such as Aircraft and Space technology. Don't count on BRP to have the financial power they once had under the Bombardier Corporation.

I didn't think in terms of financial power, but more of the capability to target a product to the market. Building the right products at the right time at the right prices and doing it 4stroke and with performance nothing short of the 2smokers is what Yamaha is capable of. My thinking is that Yamaha will step on it adding products that the market wants. In Scandinavia Yamaha is on their way to the top of the list when it comes to market share. The Apex is number 2 on the most selling model list for 2005, beating the even the RX-1. What is the market share for Yamaha in US and Canada for 2005 season?

My brother-in-law is a major Cat fan and he says his dealer tells him the Thunder Cat is coming back next year...possibly in a four stroke but the estimated HP is around 190. The same dealer said he has heard Yamaha is stepping up to 180hp also!!!!! All we can do is wait and see I guess. :yam:

Yamaha Pres. is on record as stating that Big Y will not go past the 150hp mark in sleds for now. I think maybe a turbo for the mountain men but flatlanders will have to wait or go boost and smoke em all.

They are dreaming superbike motors into sleds. Yamaha is not dreaming they are awake and kicking 2smokers with 4strokers. Also these HP number are including the ram air effect at speeds exceeding 185 MPH. These Cat rumors started the moment the RX-1 was introduced to the public in 2002. Another thing, the Busa engine is heavy more like 2-ton. The Suzuki GSXR 1300 Hayabusa is about 100 lbs heavier than the R-1 superbike, pumping out just a few HP more on the dyno then the Yamaha YPZ R-1.

Ski-doo is comming out with a revised 800 motor 155hp and there mtn sleds are going to be lighter yet.

All will be disclosed with time. All the speculation and rumors....I don't think anyone REALLY knows what's coming. Don't believe it until you see it is what I say...

All I know is I am excited to see what happens in the next 5 years. I just hope Mother Nature starts to cooperate so these manufactures start selling more sleds to keep the R&D going!!!

Lets see how far off I am on the 13th.. New entry level 100HP 2 cyl. 3 cyl. stays carbed with chassics change.. Apexs , color and decals biggest change. Black attak will be available. Few small improvements.

7 skulls - It would seem strange that Yamaha would say they would not produce a sled over 150 Hp when they build a 2 wheel light weight 180 hp + sportbike that anyone can buy. Not saying it isn't true just would seem odd.

I think you got it pretty close ;)!

my dealer said entry level twin and that they could pump like 180 out of the genisis with cam tweaks and such

Since it's all speculation at this point I may as well throw in my 2 cents.

A corportation with the financial capital and motorsports domination of Yamaha can pretty much chart their own destiny (and that of the industry) if they put their minds and backs into it.
We all hope they truely are going to get serious about increasing their marketshare. If they donate the financial resources and research and development to set the industry on its ear I will be very tickled.
Here's what I can't believe they are missing. "The Entry level market"!

Snowmobilers can develop loyalties are a very young age. I would love to see Yamaha come out with a Mini APEX and a Freestyle like sled for the kid who moves up from the Mini APEX. If they start on Yamaha chances are much more likely they will stay on a Yamaha. No, there isn't much of a profit to made on these toy like sleds but the life time brand loyalty they can create is well worth the effort to market them.

The middle of the market seems to have a big hole as well. Where are the sleds replacing the Phazer 500, Vmax 500 and 600? We also need something to fill these gaps for young adults and smaller stature folks.

I am a mountain / cross over guy so I am hoping for a twin cylinder four stroke LIGHTER mountain sled as well. The 596 lb dry APEX is awesome for balsting up mountains but for strictly boondocking I'd like one about 100 lbs. lighter. The hp of this machine could be 85-110 hp naturally aspirated version and maybe a horse power enhanced version for those demanding more power.

I guess we'll all see what happens in a week or two.

Tork I dont know about you but I Like these sleds so much the way they are I really dont care if we dont have big changes. Owning a apex of any kind is FIRST CLASS SNOWMOBILING. ;)! :D also not knocking the 3 cyl. Just like the power of a 4 .

I know. I think that insurance and litigation are probably behind their hesistation. Can't help but remember the sport bike top speed wars or the sport atv implosion of a few years back. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to draw too much attention to yourself. I think what I read was that yamaha were happy, at the current time, with the power level of the apex. I expect never to see a prod. sled over 180hp from anyone.

Good point skulls...But look whats going on with cars. You can go buy a ZO6 and have a 500 horse car in your hands right off the showroom floor. And that's just one of many you can buy. But none give that kind of bang for the buck...
As far as insurance..it's like anything else. If you can afford the toy, you should be able to afford the insurance.
