Does everyones secondary clutch have this pitting?
I took it to the dealer, and they popped one off a new sled, it had the same thing.

My '06 Attak's secondary looks the same. I too took it to the dealer for inspection and it was deemed either normal and or nothing to affect performance.

airholes in the casting...dont like the look...but I'd be more concerned if it was the primary...I'd call yam cust service and voice your displeasure

Mine too. Agreed, use scotch brite.

Ever see one fail? Sure, it looks bad, but most likely will never affect durability. For mental satisfaction, call them 'precision cooling vents'.
In the meantime, fix the porosity, please. We could never accept that looking like that here in a casting/forging. (GE).

I have seen it before on my Viper.. Not a top notch casting. I would be more concerened if you seen these on primary clutch.

Hey.. get rid of the emery or sandpaper,,,, scotch brite buddy, and my secondary is the same.. pitting comes from the casting procedure..

Uhhh, mr. Olav Aaen tells me to use emery, as scotchbrite "polishes" the clutch surface and makes the belt slip.

My experience has been if there is belt residue, that you don't have the time to clean up, the emery breaks through it, while the scotchbrite breaks it up and moves it around.

I second the emery rumor. I've read that before, but I also agree that moderation is very important. I actually started my sled, and very carefully used a fine emery cloth, and very quickly ran it in and out of the clutch.
I removed the belt to clean the secondary, and used the same fine emery. Just don't get in the habit of doing it regularly. Frequent cleaning should be done with scotch-brite.

For a trail sled, a polished finish (including polished by the belt) is the way to go IMO:

- The clutching remains consistent (not "extra grippy" right after scuffing it up).
- The belt lasts much longer
- Less work for you.

For racing, I'd listen to the racing experts (not me).

I think you are worrying about nothing. If the pitting is bad enough to scrap a belt or weaken the part then I would be worried. From what I am seeing I do not see this as a problem. I work in the construction equipment business and it is almost impossible to get perfect castings.
