Yes, that is what I was thinking as well. I think that the headlight cover is screwed up so I'm going to ask them to change it.I also hate to point out that if the windshield pops out as you say then a mid height will do the same. When I look at the windshield cover (the windshield bolts to the headlight cover) it locks under a lip on the headlight. If that is seated under the headlight properly there is no way that can let go unless something breaks or something moves. Looks like two screws hold this together and would keep rearward pressure on the windshield cover. That funky rubber gasket also has to lock under the cover (hope that is not in the way of a good lock). Now if that cover does not lock deep under the lip on the headlight your going to have problems. I'm thinking only two things could prevent this, either the screws holding the cover onto the headlight are to loose allowing the cover to slip forward or the cover itself is faulty and not shaped right preventing the cover from sliding back under the lip on the headlight. When I look at the pictures it appears as if the cover is to far forward. Solve the problem of the cover not seating under the lip on the headlight all the way and it should work perfectly without the ginormous ugly in the way braces. They are not needed to make this work. Hope you figure it out!
Manitoba TY Ride at about 5:40 you see the shield bent right down level with the GPS almost at triple digit speed. There is a ton of pressure on the windshield. Other parts of the vid you can see it not bent down. After looking at your pics I know this is what you want, not what is happening to you!

Well, my dealer has agreed to give me a new headlight cover piece to attempt to fix this problem. I will tear this apart again in a few weeks and swap it out, hopefully fixing it.

Well, I have installed the new headlight cover piece and reassembled my xtx. After much thought and discussion with the dealer I decided to use 3M super strength moulding tape where the headlight cover locks into the front of the headlight. The tape is folded under the tab on the light. Hopefully this will provide enough resistance so they will not come unlocked again. I'll know after the sled's cover has been on a few days.

It's been 24 hrs with the cover on it and it still hasn't popped out! Did I fix it or is it just teasing me?

Sweet! I put the cover on mine with the large shield and drove 2,000kms at 105 to 125kph with my sled in the back of my truck. Never came undone and it should'nt. Hope you have it fixed. It's been 24 hrs with the cover on it and it still hasn't popped out! Did I fix it or is it just teasing me?View attachment 111645 View attachment 111646

Well, I have disappointing news. The 3m moulding tape did not hold and the windshield popped out AGAIN!! So I had the dealer order me some of those hideous support brackets which i now have to drill holes and install. I still have less than 200 miles on this new sled. This really infuriates me to no end! $14k and the damn tall windshield won't stay attached. The man who designed this cheesy POS should have his nuts cut off. I have taken this all apart 10 times. This is not the Yamaha quality I've had over the last 20 yrs.

It is ridiculous; but, you now will have it fixed with the bars, you will get used to them and wont notice, and your shield will stay put, as will your headlight adjustment. BEFORE you drill holes, check that your handle bars clear the braces in full turn, if you put them in the right place they will clear, even with hand protectors.

Well, my dealer sent me the windshield brackets for an older apex. They were too short and now I'm waiting for them to send me the correct ones for a 2014 apex. I'm glad I didn't drill the holes! What a pain!

Well, I finally figured this whole windshield problem out! I was given the brackets for the older style apex but they wouldn't work as they are too short. The whole problem was my damn clamshell trailer cover that hit the windshield when it was closed popping it out! I feel like a fool for not realizing it sooner believe me! I now have a medium height shield on and it works excellent. It is only 2.5 in shorter in the very center part but it looks better and fits in my trailer. I did have to move 1 brace in my trailer. You want the brackets for 06-10 Apex, the newer ones are worthless.
