New to me '08 Nytro with 4,400 miles on it. With the sled sitting on the ground the upper and lower ball joints on both sides have not slop in them. Jack the front end up and both upper and lower ball joints have a little slop in them. Is this normal or are they shot and need replacment? Also, Steering post moves up and down about a 1/16" of and inch or a little more. Notice that the black delrin washer/bushing at the end of the shaft under the hood is probably worn and needs to be replaced. Need to replace the heim-joint that connect the steering shaft to the drag link as well as it has some slop in it. I would assume that these two steering issues are normal?
I know that the '08 models had a ball joint issue. How is that issue corrected/solved when replacing them and which ball joints should I use if they need to be replaced?
Thanks,
Mills

Check the subframe to determine if it's bent. There is a flat gusset in the nose of the subframe. If it's wrinkled for warped looking it's bent. Also check shocks to see if they sit in the center of the A-arms, it not the subframe is likely bent.
Subframe is repairable usually. As for steering, I think you just need new bushings which most just buy the OFT relocator which has Oilite bushings and move the bars forward a bit. You can also just buy replacement block and oilite bushings to avoid using OEM plastic crap. I'm not familar with the ball joint issue, my sled is newer than '08
A-arm bolts have a recall too, sometimes they come lose and cause the hold in the frame to be come egged out. If that happens, they will typically come lose again. Shake Arms forward and back to see if there is play in the bolt holding them on.
If subframe is bent, get the Grizztracks gusset kit - do a search on the site.

Check out Schmidt Bros web site they have a 08 nytro upper balljoint upgrade ,,I think you send them your balljoint and they do there stuff to it .....also check your a-arm bushings they maybe bad also easy to replace you can get them from pioneer performance or ulmer racing both are good
Steering I would go with the oft steering relocate ...

So on an 08, can you replace the lower ball joints with the newer 2012's? As long as you buy the collars as well?
http://www.portyamaha.com/fiche_section ... fveh=50998
ball joints = 25, 29
collars = 31 x 4 ?
circlips from the 08 still fit these?
