Just finished my bushings install on my '08. Slop was not quite as bad as you describe but I thought my ball joints were bad too. I got all my bushings installed and my balljoints actually had way less slop than I thought so I am going to hold of on those for a while. I also found that my "locking" nut on my right side upper balljoint was loose which made the joint feel like it was totally shot, took that apart got some locktight on it and my front is tighter than new, btw I also installed the steering bushings from OFT. Sorry for the long post, just trying to give you some more ideas and hate to see a guy spend money on somthing you may not need right away.
X2 on that as mine loosen also. Red loctite and torqued so should be good
