What would you do.

I had some problems with a dealer once with not fixing my service bulletins correctly, called yamaha and they pretty much blew me off as well. I did not trust the sled so i traded it in and bought a new bike. Still have not bought a new sled even though the new rs venture has everything I wanted out of my 05. Having a hard time deciding.

I won't be buying another Yamaha sled because they don't make 2-strokes anymore. That and their warranty is so crappy. They barely cover the engine and exhaust, let alone anything else. My next sled will be a Ski-Doo E-Tech, which has been around for some time now in Mercury outboards. It will be cheaper on oil than a 4-stroke also.

Even if this one turns out to be a true non mod failure, 3 (confirmable) non mod failures in 5 years of production... Wow thats not a bad record and way better than anyone else can say...
(Though It would still be bad for Roger and Yamaha should check into it)

Onlyblue Very rare indeed.

Good luck Roger
Stay calm, don't give up and try all the things Hondo said.
I would bet Hondo knows more about the 120 than most of the Yamaha mechanics that work on it. he certainly put more miles on one.

I have a hard time believing that there has only been 3 failures. This must be what Yamaha is claiming. If it were true about only 3 failures, and Yamaha had a brain in their head, they would have given those 3 people a brand new engine, or for that matter a new sled. It would have cost Yamaha almost nothing, and would prove to everyone that they stand behind their product.. The way Yamaha deals with the people that keep them in business is a joke, and until they do something for me that will entice me into buying another of their products, I'll be telling everyone how reliable my 4-stroke has been.
Good luck to all with this engine.

I said, confirmable non-modified motor failures.
It is unfortunate that you have been unable to get this taken care of and feel the need to switch brands. Since you are going to Doo are you going to checkout the 1200?

Roger,

Have you personally written a letter to Yamaha explaining in detail your motor problem???

Without action on your part, you will not find a satisfactory solution to your problem.

If there were a wide spread Genesis 120 engine problem we would be reading more than just your problem on this site.

Here is an example of a major wide spread problem.

Check out this thread:

Pretty interesting eh???

If there were massive motor problems with the Genisis 120 rest assured, all would know about it.

Here is how I got there.

Have you checked recalls??????

Try this: Maybe Yamaha Canada can help you.

If you haven't written a letter to Yamaha, write a detailed letter to Yamaha explaining all that has occured regarding your situation.

Hope this helps!

All the best!!! ;)!

Let him go. Everybody probably has had to deal with a defective product in their life. No manufacture is perfect, but some are better then others. Ask a GM guy if he would recommend a GM product and most will say yes where there will be a few that would say NOWAY, same goes for Ford, Ski-doo, Polaris, even Honda and Toyota have had their share of poor units. He may get a good Doo he may not. If he gets a bad Doo then he will move the Polaris and then Arctic Cat.

And Roger-in regaurds to the fluids not being covered to my knowledge they would not be covered by anyone, even car manufactures don't replace fluids under warrentee. Granted the dealer could have "good-willed" the fluids but you most likely pissed him off. Get it fixed spend the few bucks for the fluids, take it to the Doo dealer and trade it in and be done. I'm sure somewhere down the road the doo will probably let you down for some reason and you will bad mouth them and move on to the next manufacture.

I agree SlowPoke,

There is probably more to the story.

I'm done.

I don't think enough has been done to get Yamaha's attention is my basic point.

Whinning on this site is not a solution to his problem. ;)!

Ya you are right let him go, good luck with the 2 strokes E-TECHs.

I just read some of his old posts and there seems to be more to this story.

I am done too.

I am sure the E-Tec will have it's share of problems on the snow as well.
As for oil - one way or the other you pay. The gas 2-3 miles to the gallon is not a big deal. It was going from 10-12 to 22-25 but not for a couple. I still think for the size and weight of these machines they should be able to get the mileage up in the 30-35 m/gal range. (Said they couldn't do it with cars and now we are getting in the 40's with some and even 50 in the odd case
