Looking for input as to what I should do re an issue I had with a dealer and my Y pipes. Here is what happened.
Took sled to dealer for donuts and advised I wanted all my old parts back plus to notify me of any additional work via phone before doing anything. Dealer explained its their policy to phone before additional work.
Dealer told me I needed both Y pipes as well. I went and looked at the old ones and one was worn through. The other showed signs of thinning but was not through.
Since I knew of the new stainless y pipes I asked them to replace both with stainless and return my old parts. I thought I probably could have continued to use my non worn through pipe but in my mind I wanted a matching set. This is because a friend had told me the stainless Pipes have a higher flow rate and I thought it would be better to match a pair considering this thing Revs at 11000.
Waited a week for parts (y-pipes) and was promised sled for this friday. With the weather changing this worked out OK because this weekend may be the last for sledding this year and I would have a chance to test the sled and make sure all is well before I put it away for the summer.
Since my tow vehicle is down I had to borrow a trailer to pick the sled up this Friday. Made it to the shop with the borrowed trailer just before it closed. As I was paying my bill the dealer told me I got a great deal because the distributor had sent one Titanium and one Stainless pipe. Dealer said he decided to eat the difference since he had promised me the sled for the weekend and I should be happy because I got one of the more expensive pipes. I was taken by surprise and asked why they didn't call to explain the issue instead of waiting for me to show up with trailer. He said its because per the Service Bulletin the parts are fully interchangeable and it was not going to effect my bill.
I was a little pissed but kept my cool and told him I needed time to think about it. I then told him he should have called and let me decide for myself. Then I borrowed a sled from my brother for Saturdays ride which may be the last of the season.
So the question is.
What would you do?
Would you.
1) Insist they install both stainless per original work order.
2) Take sled as is with mix and match Y-Pipes.
3) Other option I have not thought of.

if your sled is still at dealer i would say get stainless, if not make him give you warranty on titianium pipe for as long as you own sled. as far as air flow i would not worry.

There is no difference in the flow rate between Stainless and Titanium. Excell does have a better flowing header due to the stepped tube design but they are $550 a set. I would rather have the Yamahas Stainless pipe instead of the Titanium because of the durability difference between the two. If it were me I would have the dealer replace the Titanium pipe.

Give them both options stated above. Put on a nother SS one or warranty the Ti one for life, parts and labor. Maxdlx

If this is a warrenty claim and the work is not costing you money then I would except the sled back.
If you are paying for the work out of your pocket I would not except the machine until the dealer performs the work like you asked him. I would want 2 of the stainless pipes to match and I would also want the slightly worn pipe back as a spare.

Well by the replies so far it looks like I made the right call. I was pretty wound when I left the dealer and was not sure if my deceision to leave the sled and ask for the stainless was right or fair. I though perhaps my state of mind when being informed of the mixup clouded my judgement.
Thanks for the replies
