I want to get the famly back into sleding after years of being out of the sport. We went riding yesterday and had a blast.
What Yamaha four stroke sled would be good for? It must have electric start, reverse, maybe two up seat, reliable and not as fast as my Viper?
I have only had 2 stroke sleds and it may be the turning point for me.
Thanks

The RS Venture is supposed to be a family touring sled, not sure if it would be faster than your Viper. The previous poster's suggestion is also a good one.

well,if you want two up,you only have two choices, venture lite or reg venture.lite is 80 hp,around 85 mph and 20-23 mpg canadian, reg venture is 120 hp so plenty of power but is slower than a viper due to its weight cause it is a touring machine,120 hp motor is bullet proof and really good on gas, same as the 80 hp on fuel mileage from what you read on here, more storage on lite, way more and i have a feeling the 120 is going to change if not in 08 or 09.i own a phazer and love mine, light and easy to steer, tough choice cause they are both good machines

I dont think either sled is going to be able to beat a Viper. You cant really compare a one-up performance trail sled to a 2-up touring sled in terms of performance.
The RS Venture might give the Viper a run for its money off the line, but Id expect the Viper to pull away on the topend.

Thanks guys. I don't want it to be faster than the Viper just a good overall sled forthe wife and kids.
Is the Venture 120 hp, a 121 or 144 long track or do you have a choice? What is a good price to pay and good year to buy? Thanks

Venture is 144 inch track. Where are you located? Lots of good used 4-strokes out there right now as it is a buyer's market.
In Michigan, USA. What is the cost on a Venture 120? 04 or 05?

My opinion,
RS Venture...
You can set it up where a child can drive it.
Wife, and kids should probably get close to 20 mpg, or more.
RS Venture is are very reliable.
Tomorrow I should roll 17,000 miles.
As with everything else, RS Venture does require proper maintenance.
Just my opinion... Hope this helps!
I love riding my red, three holed, iron pony!
Just kidding though... Put a turbo or supercharger on RS Venture, and it will smoke your Viper...

If you are hauling two up I would recommend the Venture. That 3 cyl. engine is bullet proof and gets 20 mpg. and is quiet. Gas and go.

If you go to the TY Ride Section , and click on TY Mileage-Hondo, there is more description and photo's of this years rides.
Back to this thread...There is more information on RS Venture in my 16,000 mile report, soon to be 17,000 mile report, in the RS Section.
The key to RS Venture is to be patient setting up the sled.
For the wife and kids, a soft to medium spring block, center shock, and front shock settings are probably better.
Based on weight, you may or may not need to use the white pre-load spring blocks.
Try different set-ups, and find what's comfortable for the person operating the machine. Once you find a comfortable set-up, the suspension provides a very nice ride.
The motor is absolutely 100 % bullet proof on 87 regular fuel. Change the oil every 2,000 miles.
Hope this helps!

Thanks octang and hondo,
The Venture RS looks great and has everthing I want in the sled.
What year should I get? Is one year better that the other?

I liked the Venture Lite more than the GT when I rode them last march. The Lite might have the most comfortable seat ever put on a snowmobile. Plus the overall Ergonomics of the sled just felt better to Me. I have never owned a 2-up but based on what I rode I would buy the Venture Lite. Even though it was only 80 hp It just felt right to Me. I would suggest finding each machine and at least sitting them back to back and you might see for yourself what I'm trying to explain. I'm not knocking the RS, this is just My personal preference. Good Luck.

Again this is just my opinion,
First of all, I would wait until Feb 25th, when the 08's are unveiled, just to see which way Yamaha is heading with the RS Venture line.
If you are looking for a left over, try to get an 06 or newer.
* The 06 slide rails accomodate a larger wheel about 10" ahead of the rear axle. This wheel will significantly help reduce hyfax (slide) wear. You won't have to install marginal snow wheels. Make sure there is a normal wheel in that location.
* The 06 wind screens are about 2" taller, as well.
* The pivot arm gussets were also reinforced in 06. All good upgrades from the 05's.
That's all I can think of right now.
Good Luck shopping around.
I'm sure there are some good deals out there.
Today, I did roll 17,000 miles.
Hope this helps!
