I remember reading somewhere that if you use anything other than Hot Soapy water it will go into the sheeves and come out while riding.

Compressed air first, as long as black dust comes out, then Scotch Brite pad medium or heavy.

put it in that white thing in the kitchen that has dishes in it.

Medium scotchbright (brown) and alcohol, followed by a cold water rinse and paper towel dry.

use yamaha contact clearner it leaves no residue on cluthes and it is cheap there orther brands no name but make sure it is contact cleaner

Spray Nine/Simple Green, Green Scothbrite with BOILING hot water to open the aluminum pores to release all the CRAP, rinse & scrub...then rinse! and rinse! and wipe it good and DRY, also wash your BELT with dish washing soap in hot water and rinse and rinse and sponge dry with a clean cloth.

I did that one time with my Bronco's air intake plenum. Couldn't get in to it real well to clean it, so in the dishwasher it went. Then came the truth behind the old saying " Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission".

Did a nice job on the plenum but took forever to get the black color and smell out of that thing.

HUM.... Lots of different answers here... I used hot water and dish soap on the belt when I got it so its ready. Just lots of mixed opinions on the clutch sheeves..
