whats everyone using to clean your clutches

put it in that white thing in the kitchen that has dishes in it.

I've always thought of trying that. Does it leave any residue in the dishwasher afterwards?

clutch is probably cleaner than most of the dishes that go in there - my dishwasher preheats the water to just below boiling, when we were cart racing, a 5 hp briggs block cleaned up real nice in the dishwasher.

HUM.... Lots of different answers here... I used hot water and dish soap on the belt when I got it so its ready. Just lots of mixed opinions on the clutch sheeves..
I blow off clutch with air, remove belt and start the sled, grab a scotch brite pad and carefully go up and down on sheeves with medium pressure>watch your fingers<you will see it get cleaner and cleaner, blow it off again and then clean with hot soapy water, and then blow it off again dry.been doing it this way for years, and yes i still have 8 fingers and 2 thumbs.. ;)!

Take clutches off and blow with air. Then dissemble both clutches (weights, springs, rollers, cams, springs etc...) and soke them in hot soapy water. Scrub off all belt dust and dirt. Use a tooth brush or small bristle brush to get in the tight areas. Dry over night.. Assemble and put back on the sled. Start sled with the belt off and scotch brite the Primary sheeves (WITH NO LONG SLEEVES SHIRT ON.) Then wipe Primary and secondary sheeves with ascetone. Install belt, done..

Be very careful when spinning your clutch off the motors crank, have someone on the KILL switch just incase...I spin mine on a LATHE its safer but still dangerous!

Don't use 80 or 100 grit you'll destroy it. A scotch brite pad like they say. Or just wipe it with Acetone.

The red course scotch pad, anything less and it will take longer to do.400 grit is the paper alternative to red course scotch pad,but your fingers will get hot if you do it the way i do.. :letsnow:

Break cleaner, spray on, let it sit for a while, wipe clean with a clean cotton rag. Do it all over again until the clean cottan rag no longer gets dirty. Use a Scotch brite steel pan scrub and scrub the clutches from the senter to the edges, wipe off with a clean cotton rag. Drive belt, well I use break cleaner on a cotton rag and wipe until it's clean.
