Have you done any serious deep snow hill climbing since you geared up? Did the higher gearing cause you any problems?

I am in the midst of clutching mine right now and I am really debating whether I should gear up a little or not. Pre-turbo I was 21/42. I went back to 21/40 when I installed the turbo. My hesitation has been the fear of Bender's kit not building as much boost down low.

Escuse meee

We all know that those fives valve have a lot of power.
Ihve just begening to play whith those nasty clutchs and gain a lot of low rpm power and try it on a strate ligne and when up to 145 kmh awsome for a long track one, and, at the end of the shift she is lasy to climb, wait next year till i fit two rollers and mutystage helix, she will fly...

I am sure of that potential.

spray i would seriously recommend gearing up to at least a 22/40, i have had no problems at all with that, the turbos build so much torque it hardly even phazes them. I have not tried the 23/40 yet, I will be testing that saturday but I believe it will work well. Another benifit of the taller gearing is that the chain is on a much straighter profile, does not have to bend around the tensioner as far which is less friction. Same theory as the 8" rear wheels. What is the setup on your rx1, clutching, boost, carburation, and what elevation do you ride at?

Turbo Time,

Here's the highlights of my setup.............

159, extroverts, net loss of 40 lbs including that heavy damned turbo, Simmons skis.

Setup for 5lbs and 9.5 lbs of boost right now. Playing with Heel Clickers right now. I'm starting to wonder if I will be able to get them heavy enough. The snow down low by the house has been weak so I haven't been able to test much lately. Carbs...needles all the way down, 142.5 mains.

I ride 5000-8000 feet.

Now what's your setup?

I saw 106 last winter on a very very slight downhill grade. Thta was with the 8DN-00 weights. I have added even more weight to them now so we'll see how that works shortly. I have a 151 x 2 1/4" finger track now too so that may change things.
Turbo Time, how did you like your FINGER track on the RX-1? Powder Blue

Spray, here is my setup,

159" finger track, extraverts, mountain performance traction enhancement kit, 10lbs boost, 132.5 mains, heel clickers, empty heel 3.2 mid 5.6 tip, team secondary with straight 52 helix with nitrous, straight 48 without, I am also running a 340 jet in the charge tube, I ride from 7-9000 feet, I am mostly into drag racing and hillclimbing, this setup works great for racing, 23/40 gearing. In reference to your statement about being able to weight the heelclickers enough, it has been my experience that using the lightest weights possible without overreving lets the turbo react much quicker resulting in less lag and much better throttle responce. Have you tried some steeper helix angles, I think you would be happy with the results. Also don't be afraid to rev these things they love the rpm especially in the steep and deep, I am running about 10800.

In answer to powder blue's question, the finger track is awesome, it is good for 2-3 sled lengths in a drag race the only fallback is that it is not as good in the real fluffy powder, it tends to trench more, you will also lose a little top end due to more drag, but it will accelerate much faster.

WOW we are dramaticaly diferrent in jetting. I am 142.5's, needles all the way down and 280 in the pitot. I have not rode above about 6200 since the turbo install.

Thanks for the idea's on the HC's. Which ones are you using? I'm using the 40-10's?

Thanks Turbotime, that's good to hear about the finger track. Did you by chance clip off the 2 1/4" tips to make the track a consistent 2.00"? I have heard of others doing this and I wondered if it makes sense? I understand it saves weight, reduces drag and actually makes the sled work better? I would guess it might help out on the big end a little too? Powder Blue

spray I am using the 92-11 HC's,

Powder I did not cut the tip's off of the track, I would recommend trying it first, you won't be dissapointed, I just can't bring myself to cutting up a $550+ track.

Rode today just trails though. :(

Using an air fuel gauge AND checking plugs, I am still to lean above 3/4 throttle. I am going to 150 mains and a 300 pitot next. Another guy ran this setup today and said it was PERFECT!!

Ran 5.8 in the tip, 1.1 in the middle, and 5.4, 3.9, & 3.1 in the heel. The 5.4 seemed to pull the hardest down low and held RPMs where they should be. I'm going to play a little with the shoulder some more once I am able to hit the hillclimbs. I may also need just a tiny bit more in the middle, like just 1/2 gram to fine tune it.

spray, it sure seems like you are running way too rich on the jets, I wonder if you are trying to compensate for a problem elsewhere. check all of your carb connections and you may want to hook up a fuel pressure gauge to see if your regulator is adjusted right. I am running 132.5 mains and a 340 in the charge tube and it is plenty rich at 10 lbs of boost.

I have double checked everything. Well ok I haven't put a pressure gauge on.

I have a friend with two kits. He is running this setup on his stage one (what I have) from 4,000 to 10,000 feet. It is spot on.

On his stage two he was running same setup except he had the 142.5's. He went to the 150's and that was to rich. I think he is going to 147.5s next. The pitot setup between stage one and two is diferrent.

There is another member on this forum who is running a stage two with 132.5's that I have been talking to and he is getting what sounds like a lean pop.

I realize that there are people running smaller jets than I am, but when both the air fuel gauge and plugs are telling me I am lean I jet up.

top speed

My last machine was a 1984 SRV. I saw 150km on my rx on the lake the other day and it was still climbing. I backed off having scared the %^&(*^%*&^* out of myself. Still learning.......
