Top Viper speed

What would be a typical short track Viper top speed on near idea condition like hardpack back road with just little snow to lubricant the slides for about a half a mile. I am not talking about a radar run very detailed setup stock sled. Just a well clutched and tuned stock trail sled. I have seen all sorts of numbers in the last couple years but I am never sure when they are real and they are speedo numbers. How far is the speedo typically off. The 2 stroke Vipers read about 14 % high. Kind of wondering how the speed and acceleration aspect of the new and old compare. I am pretty sure in anything but very firm hardpack or ice will be acceleration advantage for 4 stroke but what about longer hardpack lake or back road runs.

in those perfect conditions on a stocker...I would say 93 to 98 mph. The speedo is almost dead nuts on the ones I have. If the conditions change you can be in the mid 80 pretty darn fast.

Not a short track, but my LTX topped out at 96+ (GPS) on a 1/2 mile stretch of "hardpack lake" with temps in the teens; the speedometer was dead on. (My only modifications to the sled are an OSP adjuster for the clutch and a pair of SLP Mohawks with Bergstrom triple points.) I agree with Mr. Sled; with sloppy trail conditions, top speed drops off fast, into the low to mid 80's. I rode a buddy's 2-stroke Viper, but it was years ago so its hard to objectively compare a faded memory to my current sled! My somewhat biased guess is that the 4-stroke is quicker, and faster on the top end as well.

I have both but both are pretty heavily modded. But what I know of the stockers, out of the box the 2 stroke has a little more on top (real speed not dreamo) but not alot. The new Viper will be putting sled lengths on it though down low so it would need a really long stretch to pull ahead. Now start making clutching changes to either one and not the other and it's a different race.
