What's the general concensus on the effectivity of nitrous on the RX-1?
Like everyone else I too would like to have a turbo BUT the new Honda Pilot in the driveway says NO WAY. So what do those of you who have seen nitrous RX-1s or actually have them think? PB

is this thread about optimum TPS setting or nitros??

Dang! I have no clue how this happened! Actually it was supposed to be about nitrous.
What's the verdict of the effectiveness of nitrous on the RX-1?
The above statement is what I SWORE I typed in for the header. Oh well.
I still do wonder what the optimum setting is for the TPS while your at it. :ORC

You can go back and edit the header of your first post so that it states your question. You might have better luck getting answer to your Nitrous question it it was in the header rathan TPS.

Talk to NOSPRO.. His sled is in the low 10s with nitros!!
to run with a turbo you'd have to do a 100hp hit of NOS. You'd have to change your timing to do that.

I spoke to Barry Holtzman regarding his nitrous kit. It is compatible with his other products (tempaflow, variflow and ATACC). He has a several different H.P. configurations with the 75 hp being the one I'd want. I would guess then you'd be up around 220 hp while on the bottle.
95% of the time (ok, 98%) of the time the wimpy 140-145 hp my sled makes now is just dandy BUT, in those instances of need it would sure be nice to hit THE button and rocket away from the competition (except for maybe a turbo RX-1).
I have the Supertuner filter kit and the evac system (but the evac isn't hooked up yet). How would one mount the nitrous injectors with the evac system (next to each other, plumbed together)? PB

I ran a small 36 hp. shot of nitrous on mine. It went from getting beat by my sons ported and piped Mach Z to pulling away from him really fast. I had no issues with clutching like most people think just much faster when on the bottle. It is a Nitrous Express 4 nozzle kit installed in each carb boot. One of the boots was split where the nozzle was installed when I went to run the motor last month so I will have to replace it and watch the rest.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone have a summer special on a nitrous kit? Where do you mount the bottle? I have seen one mounted horizontally above the motor between the engine and the steering post. It would keep the bottle warm, be right over the center of gravity and a carbon fiber bottle sitting there would add cool points. PB

Nitrous is nice for when you want to use it, that is what I like. Barry Holtzman has the best setups out there, and I recommend his products to anyone with a RX1, or any sled.
My system is custom made by myself, and is adjustable from 15-200 horse, but you can safely do 50-60 with the stock timing. My sled gained just over a full second in the 1/4, and that was with no clutching changes. (See asphalt results 2004, under the racing topic)
Next year, when all other bills paid, and some stuff laying around gets sold, I will be trying a nitrous injected turbo RX1 to run the quick 16. If the turbos can run mid 9's, and shoot an extra 50 horse of nitrous to it...............................mid to high 8's are a possibility.

I spoke with Barry Holtzman yesterday. He said he sold hundreds of his nitrous kits and the feedback was very favorable. He also said he has a 45 h.p. kit that he can easily and happily make a 50+ h.p. kit.
He talked about the use time at 45 h.p. vs the use time when the nitrous flow is increased to make 75 h.p. Basically you get another 50% more useage at 45 h.p. than at 75 h.p.
His kit for the RX-1 is currently set up for use with the airbox. He is ordering a couple filters from Freddie (Supertuner) and making a setup for that configuration. I asked him how the crankcase evacuation kit would affect the nitrous flow. He is looking into the best configuration. The kit for use with the filter will cost more than the one for the airbox due to an additional fogger required. Instead of one for the airbox you need two (one for each filter which feeds two carbs). PB

I have seen dozens of Boon Dockers on sleds, have yet to see a Holtzman. I think you will find at places like Snowest most people have Boondockers. Everyone I have talked to likes their Boondockers. When I checked into it about a year and a half ago they were using filter pods not the airbox. They claimed much better results using the pods over the airbox.
You might give Rocky a call and chat with him.

Spray, how do I get a hold of this "Rocky" fellow? I was interested in the Holtzman system so I could use it with my ATACC (which worked so well in McCall-NOT).
Another reason I was focusing on the Holtzman system is that it adjusts the flow of the nitrous to be the same regardless of the temperature of the bottle.
He said they have a 1 1/4 lb bottle and a 2 1/2 lb bottle in aluminum only. They don't sell the carbon fiber bottles becasue if you drop them once they are usually junk and the major increase in cost is just not worth the 1 lb weight savings (in his opinion). PB

PB no J,

I don't have any experience with the carbon fiber bottles, but it does seem resonable that they would be more fragile. One nice thing about the carbon fiber is they make a 4 lb bottle. If memory serves me correctly that will fit up on top of the RX motor as well. Of course it costs as much three 2.5 lb bottles. Frankly my opinion would be to spend the money on extra 2.5lb bottles. Then you aren't running down to the fill station as much AND on big days you could haul an extra bottle.
If you be nicer to Mrs. PB she would maybe let you get a turbo. Bring her down this winter and we can show her how you NEED one
Better yet bring her down when Little Red Ridinghood comes down and we can do a turbo intervention.

BTW, there is a pic of some RX installs here: http://www.boondockers.com/Snowmobiles_ ... talls.html
One with a Bender stage two and one with what looks to be Raptor filter pods.
