Whats up with apex sway bar.

I hit a culvert with my sled last year and snaped the 13mm sway bar OFF.. didnt hurt the frame.> I got lucky..

With my luck (read Bad Luck), eveytime, and I mean everytime I venture off the smooth marked trail, I find the worst possible stump, rock, pipe, etc. and do major damage to my sled. I learned many years ago that I need to stay on the trail. Everytime I get the urge to do some boon docking, I remember the expensive parts bills. I should buy an old sled jsut forthe off trail riding but I bet I would not hit anything. Just my luck!

Last fall I hit a stump on the antisway bay link. I broke the end off the swaybar and also the corner of the bulkhead .Had to remove the bulkhead and have it welded.
How did welding the buk head go? What did you use ? Tig? hts2000?
I just foun a small crack in mine. how hard to remove it?

Welding has worked out fine. Removed the bulkhead and had the welding shop repair it. Has held up all of last season. Beat on the sled hard enough that I broke the front pivot arm.

I hit a rock at about ten mph square on my link and bent my sway-bar, bulkhead, cracked my water pump and pushed my motor back about 1/8". Not good. But since the motor has got to come out might as well throw in some new arp head studs, 10:1 pistons, and a stage 2 s/c. Not to mention a thicker swaybar that can perhaps handle a little more impact.

My two cents...I turned 50 eight years and 3 operations ago. riding upright works for me. Did a 1000 miles in 6 days..felt great. Don't try to lift the front end of an Apex and your back should be fine!!!

Hey snomo53:
Im with you, I will not lift the front end of my apex
I will call for a tow truck first. Ha Ha :flag:

my sway bar link took a direct impact. Not sure how hard it was as I just purchased this sled. Bulkhead replacement for me. What a bad design to have something sticking in harms way. Shame on Yami. I'm trying to thin of a way to protect these links. Anybody done it?

Muffinworks makes an a-arm skid. Pioneer makes a 13mm sway bar versus the 11mm oem. I have yet to see anything that protects the sway bar brackets. The a-arm skids might deflect a full impact on the sway bar. After I pulled my motor I found that my bulkhead was broken as well.

I hit a rock a few seasons ago, the right ski hit the rock and took out the spindle (not the king bolt) both A-arms, the sway bar snapped, no damage to the bulkhead.

I would say hitting anything with the swaybar link is a rare occurance.

LOOK CARFULLY AS NO DAMAGE WAS APPARENT WHEN THE SLED WAS TOGETHER. I just got mine back from welding 4 cracks in bulk head and bent sway bar links from stone. Putting it all back together this week end Any tips from the bulkhead reinstall pro's.

CHEERS MERRY CHRISTMAS

The sway bar links do stick down and look like they would get hit all the time. I have never broken one yet but I can see how it could easily happen.

In all my years of riding the RX and Apex sleds starting in 2002 I have never had anything hit the swaybar link, nor have I heard of it happen around here. I can happen, no doubt, but not very often IMO.
