Whats up with Stators

When my stator failed I did some searching around and noticed that it seems like a lot of staters fail in the 10000 mile range.
Obviously it's the Internet so take your info with a grain of salt.
I'm sure there are guys with 20,30,40 thousand on these sleds with no stator issues
My sled battery is always maintained with a trickle charger.
I Never ever had a weak or low battery.
I also ran the factory headlights no mods to bulbs. But did change over to sled start hid kit 2 years before they failed.
It is my understanding that Hid is actually supposed to use less power.
Only additional drain on my battery is a heated shield.

It's a pretty easy fix.. About 2 hrs tops for the whole job.
The issue is gonna be getting the part.
If it was me I would order the side cover gasket and keep it where you keep the sled. It's under10 bucks and 1 less thing you need to find if or when the stator fails.
Next I would talk to my dealer about stocking one. If it is a common problem, they may consider putting one into their stock if they haven't already.
Also you could get the #for the stator and call around now. If you find a dealer with it in stock then it is most likely a stocked item for them and there's a good chance they will have it when you need it
For 260 bucks its kind of expensive to just replace out of fear or worry

The HID's do use less power than the standard bulbs. Your heated sheild does not draw very much power. Did your stator fail or was it actually the crank position sensor?

Crank position sensor.
I said stator because to get the crank sensor you gotta buy the stator

Not to be argumentative, but what would your battery condition or headlight / heated sheild amp draw have to do with a crank position sensor failing? Perhaps the possibility of the stator running hotter than normal which in turn caused a heat related failure of the crank position sensor if they are mounted in close proximity to each other?
