I have seen many here say they have a wheel kit. My question is what is best: 4th wheel kit, mid wheel kit, etc for an '06 Apex RTX? I see that they are also kind of pricey, so I was hoping to only have to buy one kit vs. all of them. I'm also not mechanically inclined, so anything that doesn't require fabrication is preferred. I'm hoping to be able to just bolt it on to existing holes/whatever in the skid. Thanks.
Depends what yo are looking for? I have the 4th wheel kit because the sled is studded and keeps the track straight. I also have the rail kit that bolts on just past the rail rubber to help with mid hifax wear. I'm very happy with both add ons and they were easy to install.

I was hoping to help hyfax wear and improve the sled in general. If adding a kit on is preventative maintenance, I am all for it. Next ? is who makes the best & where do I get them?
Yamaha makes a rail kit for the center part of the rail. you can get them at the dealer or ebay for $66 shipped. Easy install and it works! Search for Attak wheel kit.

Put on the mid wheel AND the 4th wheel kit

I put two marginal snow wheel kits on. Had to buy 3 kits due to my stupidity in stripping one of the aluminum blocks, but may be able to repair it yet. I have the 4th wheel kit, tore sled aprt to put it on to only find dealer gave me wrong kit and he is on a cruise for two weeks. I may be putting back together for remaider of this year, but the marginal kits work great and even if you have to drill a hole it is easy going and dealer said it would do nothing to my warranty.

I put on Yamaha's Marginal Kit.
For the 4th wheel, I just bought a wheel same as the other 3. Then cut the spacer on the single wheel side to match the 2 wheel side, a little finishing touch on the grinder to smooth the cut edges and put her back together. Easy job just take your time and make the cuts on the plus side and grind down to the finshed length.

I also have an 06 RTX that had bad hyfax wear, PPerf offset kit and made 4th kit. Some marginal snow conditions and 2500 miles with very little wear....before was lucky to get 500 miles

snowbiscuit: Did you put on the marginal snow kit with the PP offset or just the 4th wheel kit? How is the wear at the front of the rail?

So the six wheels are lowered by the PP kit and the 4th wheel kit is mounted in the stock location making it a little higher than the others...right?

What happens if you go up a tad on wheel size and put the pp kit on? Is reinforcing needed?

NO - The 4th wheel is a big wheel that goes in the back of the suspension. If you look at your sled there are 2 of the biggers wheels on one side and only 1 on the other side. the 4th wheel gives you 2 on each side.
