It is used to keep snow and water out but let air in. I'm going to open up my air box lid for a cold air kit and use the pre filter material to keep snow out

Thanks, looking to replace my air-filter on my son's XLT and was wondering if I could make something up instead of spending $50+ dollars buying one!
