Hi guys my modular 2 helmet has quit a bit of air coming through I tried a new gasket kit and still no change I think it's time for a new helmet.
I'm looking a either the bv2s with heated shield or the 509 altitude with aviators.
What do you recommend and why? Ive never had a 509 setup so I'm not sure can you talk on the trail without having to take it off? I do like how you can enjoy a a beverage with the bv2s without taking it off.

I have a BV2S that I recently picked up. Came from a Gmax modular which had to much cold air coming in. I had heated shield on the old Gmax and never needed it. I think BV2S will be the same. No need for the heat. I also wouldn't buy a helmet again that I have to remove to hang out and talk on the side of the trail! Good luck with your choice.

I have a 509 with X5s really liked it, can talk (if i turn off my music in 1 ear) and vision was good. I wear a Klim Arctic Balaclava under because its all i could find to keep my head and nose warm. I tried the Aviators this year because I like the look and the expanded sight range....they suck to me. I cant get the aviators to not fog and ice up. I have tried 4 times this year in varying conditions and they continue to ice and fog in less than 20 minutes of ride time. even this yesterday in Mancelona when it was 35*F I was fogging.

Have dragon optics aviators in fly f2 helmet and they don't fog. My only issue as its my first season is getting goggles low enough. As they touch top of helmet and the cold air block off and breath curtain combined with head sock make it pretty bulky and hold them up and hurt my nose.

Also my fly is much warmer and no incoming air compared to the gmax 54 I had previously
BV2S by far. I have 2 and every now and again I feel 16 and buy a cross helmet then it sits on the shelf because after 50' I turn around and go back and get the BV2s! Last one was the expensive 509 altitude black ops carbon fiber last year cant remember but it was over $460 with the goggles I gave it away!
Oh and with the BV2S you do not need a heated shield as long as you crank the mask down correctly.

Been using the HJC CL-X7 for the past 5 seasons. I don't use the supplied breath box. I made my own breath deflector on my Unwind balaclava. Gives me more room to fit the goggles in with my fat nose.
This last season I picked up some Sinister X5's. No problem with fogging and never really cold. Some times on a long lake run doing 100mph+ and -35c it can get a little cool around my mouth and behind the goggles.
I just tip the visor down a little and the wind goes over instead of in.
Tried a BV2S other week. The vision side to side is good but I found looking down at the dash required more work. It's also a heavy helmet.
Did a round trip of 90 miles on true bush trails way up north and my neck was sore.

509 but with sinister x5. The avaitors don't seal well. I use a klim arctic Balaclava and can ride any weather and be fine. I've rode well below freezing and not a issue, wife also.

I have had the mod 2 and now have a 509 altitude with x5s. I would say the helmet is warm enough for any conditions...unless running lots of high mph trails. Eyes water and just isn't as warm as a full face.
Plus no one really mentions it but your field of vision with goggles is NOT as good as a full face.

Now I find that my field if vision is way better with goggles. At times with clear lense I don't even feel like I have them on. With a full face helmet I always felt like I was in a bubble and had to " look out and around" the shield if that makes any sense.

I'm a MX style guy myself but both of those helmets have a full chin bar so that's good. Either will be much safer than the modular, the MX being the safer if the two. And the 509 I think is lighter, I have a Thor carbon fiber and I don't take it off all day.

BV2S here. Best helmet I've ever owned.
Went from klim/goggle combo.
No heated shield here either and have never used the absorbent pads.
Field of view is the best out of anything I've owned. It's surprisingly good. Better than the mod2 I've tried.
