Super Sled said:Happy morning all! I have to say, this thread has really brought out the inner whiner in some. If it's not meeting your expectation, then make yours mods to what needs to be improved and be happy. It's all part of the fun!
Super Sled...The point is that you shouldn't have to spend ANY money or very little ( maybe carbides ) to make a sled perform properly..you should be able to make adjustments to the parts on the sled to get it to where you want it. Personally I'm not complaining..my 08 RTX works perfectly...but it took the ball joint mod, skis, OFT relocator and some time to get it there..all said around $450 which isn't much, but my buddies riding the Rush, and XP's just make suspension adjustments to get it dialed in. I do agree...if you can't get it dialed in even after spending $500 or so...then get something else.

I've had a few sleds in my day and there isn't a sled out there that you don't have to tune to fit you or your riding style. That being said I will say that the rev I had Wes by far the best handling sled out of the box. But even then when I got it I was on par with a friend of mine with the same sled stock out of the box and it rode great. But unchanged the skies revolved the shocks added bracing and spent a few weekends setting up the suspension and after that I was waiting at every stop sign for him. I sole the sled and got my nytro and pub of the box he was waiting for me at the stop signs. So I changed the skies lifted the bars and set up the suspension and after a few days of tinkering I was waiting for him again. I have not ye revolved the shocks as of yet but I don't think I will. Oh dont need to spend a ton of money just the time and know how to set it up. All in all I would pu skies on any sled I get but and the rev was a far better sled out of the box but with the same time spent setting up the nytro and the rev I feel I got them to very close to the same spot handeling wise and hopefully the money I spent on skies and time still isn't as much as rebuilding 2stroke.

Well i have been riding for over 30 years!! My first sled was a 440 exciter loved it,ever since i have been on Arctic Cats. I have always loved my cats especially the 08 f1000sp!!!! Best handling & fast sled i have ever owned period!! Last year i had a 2010 Z1 turbo with about 300hp. I hated that sled it was a tank & handled like #*$&@!!! I traded it for a 2009 Nytro Rtx Se,with a Powderlites turbo. I never got a chance to ride it last year, all i can say is i hope i like it!!! Good luck on your choice buddy!!!!

Maxout01 said:So looking at some new nytros. Now I read 30% of people saying its a scary, tippy, heavy sled. 50% saying all you can do is ride it like a sno cross wanna be standing up all day, and another 20% who say you can sit down and criuse on it all day long..
So i dont get it? Is this a ditch banger only, or can it be a good trail sled, sit, stand and all for a 200 miles day? I'm looking for a sled that is a great trail sled, that can be beat to hell, or on a tired day cruise like hell. Is this gonna fit me or should i look at another brand?
I was like you a year ago, I recently sold my 2006 Apex GT because I didn't need to go 120 mph, I'm a torque junkie..I read all of the flack about the 2008's needing the front end fixes and how the ski's sucked. Not wanting to deal with the 2008 chnages (even though they are simple to do) I figured why not get a 2009 that had most of these issues fixed from the factory. I was lucky enough to find a 2009 RTX SE close by with minimal miles and new pilots ski's, new clutch and basically all dialed in. I was a total beleiver after the frist ride. The powerband is UNREAL. So the decision to make is do you look for a good to go 2009 or save some $ and pick up a 2008 that lost likely already has the fixes done. I went with the 2009 solution and never looked back.

nytro is suppossed to be rough trail sled. The problems is it is too heavy it doesnt fly well or land easy and it handles hard and topheavy. I have a 2010 rtxse Ive had the shocks revalved installed stiffer tortion springs and played with settings. It rides ok but its a hard sled to ride fast. I also have a 2006 apex with 11000mi that i have been very happy with. and last year i purchased a 2011 ski doo xp 800etec. xrs the xrs is ablast to ride but it doesnt get any better fuel mileage than my apex about 12-14mpg. Rode my doo 3100mi and the nytro 500mi this year so you can tell which one i am happier with.

Best change I ever did was get away from my MXZ 2stroke and not have to worry about the engine disassembling it self on the trail. My long trail rides no longer consist of wondering if I'm going to be towed back. Its confusing as to why Yamaha hasn't addresses some of the issues of the Nytro, they are easy fixes. But don't confuse the real issues with some that are just whining about nothing. The Fx Nytro will bash bumps with the best of them, weight of the Nytro is a none issue IMO. A sled that needs engine rebuilding at 3 or 4k negates anything good about it at this point in time IMO.

Got a basically stock 08 with the gytr shocks and I dont find the handling to have any issues. Bought it used with dual carbides on it and set up for a 200 lb rider and I am 140 myself. The suspension was only set up from the dealership for the first owners weight. I have no problem going through the woods at high speeds or even the big bumps. People I have ridden with may have gotten slightly ahead in straight aways due to big engine two strokes, but in some of the bumpy trails i have nearly doubled their speeds and even taken bashes into the next bumps when I catch up to a slower rider and have to slow down on the big stutter bumps, and the front is straight as an arrow. I can see though if the rider of the sled is lazy and does not want to move on the slide and lean into the corners. Then the ride makes it harder to control for me. (may be due to hard suspension set-up). Only thing I really wish for on the sled is a longer track for when I want to go off-trail. It is definately a rough trail sled for mid speeds and not constant 80+ riding in stock form.

Decided to stop back in and update this thread. First I never bought the nytro. I went back to doo two stroke sdi. I had one of the best and highest mile seasons ever last winter and loved the doo in everything but the rough. So I sold my doo this spring and spring checked another only got the rough trail package this time. Overall I'm happy to still ride two strokes. I just never got into the four strokes that much. I got 17mpg and only used 30.00 in oil for two thousand miles last season so I'm staying with it.
Now back to the nytro part. Today went to pick up the ol yami two stroke from its service and dealer has a few used and leftover rtx se nytros. I'm buying one for my girlfriend as she loves it and its a great second sled and getting a side by side comparo next season. I'll check back soon.
Overall here's my take from this thread and many others.. buy a two stroke of other brands and its money to rebuild motor at 4-5k, buy a fourstroke Yamaha and spend all the money on chassis and not motor. Either way guys the argument to me is clear. Every sled is not perfect and cost money and a fourstroke doesn't take any less money then a two stroke in the end bottom line. My apex had more issues then any sled I ever owned so we will see how the soon to come nytro treats us. If its as bad as the apex it will be the last yami to be in our trailer. Hopefully it will be a lot better.

I'm ridin my first Yamaha Nytro xtx I've put a hard 2300 miles and coming from po and ac there is not a comparison. This is the first sled I've owned I can beat to death all day, not crusing trail riding, As we mogul ride, ditch bang then get on river run 100+ mph for 40 miles , go home and get up next day to do over again. My dealer sells Doo also tells me the rev would not hold up for my weight and riding style. I have tweaked the frontend and chang hyfax like underwear but still won't go back. Just my 2 cents. Seems like we get to a stoping point somewhere in the ride and I see hoods come up belts getting changed and all I have to do is nock some extra ice off the tunnel, By the way, I ride in mixed group all 5 or less years old machines. We get to gas pumps and I always use less than any one there. So two best buddies are avid AC riders new each year and the belts they go thru is crazy. 150+$ each no thanks I can put up with the heavy, cheap suspension parts, I know many rides I've come home after 150-200 miles then rode next day and still didn't check anything just turn key. Yes, may sound like not a good practice but thats how sure nothing is broke or wore out. So to each their own.

well all im going to say in this thread is i love this sled!!! My 08 has been flawless for me. yea the ball joint issue sucked but was covered by wrty. The slider wear thing i didnt experience, 3200 miles and the hyfax couldve still went a little. This year i decided to update the sled a little, with a 136 in stretch and a 1.5 in track. Hoping it will get even better. yea it has some bump steer but nothing that would throw me off the sled like some people say. Just gotta take up the slop in the front end and keep checkin your ski alignment. Dont know if ill ever get rid of this sled i love it that much..

I am thinking that your GF may like the looks of it but I doubt shes going to like riding an SE. It is not a "comfortable" cruiser for most women. Be prepared to swap after a few miles.
And once you do that your 600 will feel weak. Even my buddy with an 800R says my XTX feels like a crotch rocket in comparison. Yes he can beat me on long pulls....but it doesn't hit as hard.
