Vector RPM

Typically a boosted motor will keep pulling higher dyno numbers the higher you rev it, If you look at your dyno sheet the boost starts to drop off at 9200 and so does the hp. It looks like the dyno operator is well experienced and is letting off, knowing that he has pushed this motor hard enough and it will hit the rev limter soon. The rods on a vector are longer and heavier than a rx1 the higher the rpm the more stress on the rods, at 15 # of boost you are already asking the rods to pump out 100% more hp than a stock motor. To spin the vector an extra 400 to 500 rpm to make 5 to 7 hp just don’t add up. It is just where you want to draw the line, most of the boosted vector crowd seem to say yes to 8600 rpm and 15 # of boost. That extra 500 rpm puts a lot more stress on your rods, maybe you should spin it at 9200 and 20# of boost, I have not herd of a vector motor chucking it cookies yet. Sorry your rule for cluching for max hp doen not apply to a boosted motor, you have to look at the whole picture.

WOW

WOW! Hot topic and great information, but we got a little off track from my initial question. I believe my best route is to go with the MPI S/C. Will I have to change the gearing? Should I add the Ulmer Stage III clutch, and any thing else I might be missing?

Help appreciated!

Thanks ;)!

I would not change the gearing untill you ride it....You will need a bunch of clutch parts to keep the revs down were they belong ;)!

Thanks,

I would like to see someone push the vector motor hard, like 20+ pounds, the vector won't eat boost like the rx-1 because the heads just don't flow as good. If a turbo maxs out at 15# on a rx-1 it will probably make 18 to 20 pounds on the vector, but the Vector does make some great torque and works well with boost, the carbs work great as a blow through set up. Any one that has had to torque a vector head and a rx1 head will tell you the vector head needs a lot more grunt to get it buttoned up. 14 lb + 105 degrees on the 4 cly and 18 lb + 180 degrees on the vector, it's a friggin big difference! I think this motor is yamahas answer for factory forced induction, untill then we will just have to wait for someone to blow one up who knows what it will take or how long, nothing is bullet proof.

Hey Perogy I'm not too far away, Camrose, The Snow sucks this year Ah, maybe I will see ya on the hill, usually ride Golden, if I here another thumper out there i will deffinatly talk to it.

Just My Opinion

you all out there looking for a trouble free turbo sled look no further than a vector, gotta say they run so sweet with NO PROBLEMS!!, Like running
a duramax ,no fuel injection night mares , just turn the key select the boost needed & squirt the smart #*$&@ that thinks his stocker can kick your butt! gotta
love it.

i know dave was running his at 18 pounds last year at the big dawg shoot out & was only beat by the big guys running 300hp stuff rx1s,jeff simmons has a 350+ hp kit for the vector motor too.i love my vector has been prob free for 2000km now & at 15 pounds boost is just scary enough for me.there is a couple of 1010 cats here that didnt think much of it till they seen it go.i have been trying the differnt clutching because nobody would give me a strait anwser why they only clutch it for 8500-8700.they just said thats all they had tryed so someone had to do it.i will tell you one thing it rips at that rpm it may not last as long but its very fast.thats why these forms are so good you learn new stuff all the time thanks shane. :yam: :4STroke: ;)! ;)!
