The XTX fills a gap in line, so it makes sense. I test rode an 08 FX Nytro and 09 XTX back to back yesterday and all I am very impressed with the XTX. Compaired to the short track, in the corners, the XTX steering actually felt more responsive. I was expecting to feel understeer with the XTX but didn't (although the trails were soft), XTX soaked up small and large bumps better and felt much more stable overall. Still could lift the skis from take off but not as much as short track. Short track felt quicker on take off but I had to hang on the bars of the XTX tighter.
I planned on buying a 136" version for 09. Looks like I'll have to settle with the 144". I've always wanted to do more off trail riding so I think the XTX would be fun in on and off trail. I'm 6'1 and I'll need a bar extension to keep my knees from going over my toes when seated.
This supports Yamaha's claims of handling like a 121" which is VERY impressive for a 144"!!!

Ok so lots of people mad at Fort Mac....
Couple of points.....I ride off trail, not on one...perhaps this sled is a lets go fast down a river or on a groomed trail...to me....yawn...boring...
So I was disappointed!!!!
Like I explained before...I want to be able to outmark the xp stock to stock, not race it down a frozen creek and hear my teeth chatter....I do not want to drop another 2500 bucks out of the gate to get it to compete...or even come within 15ft of the xp on the hills....which is what I see right now....so hence the reason I am disappointed.....
If I wanted a "fills the gap in the line up sled" I would buy a Polaris cause thats all there good for......
I ride yamaha because it is the best...and the best sled to modify that will hold up in all types of terrain....and produce the most hp when modified...
I am however getting tired of moding sleds....hence why I was hoping for a out of the box 154-162 range mountain sled with 170 hp, slap a nos bottle on and thats all you will need.
For me, I am disapointed.....period!

Not sure exactly how you're making this determination on a sled you haven't even ridden? Outmark which xp? The 600? the 800? It is what it is, a crossover. It's not a mountain sled, it's not a trail sled. It's a little of both. It's meant to compete with 600-700's. It's meant to be mannered will for the trail, but still have the larger footprint for crossover boondocking. All in an awesome chassis. What exactly were you hoping for?
If you're just mad that they haven't released the other 09 info yet then I don't think anyone can help you.

Your review should be almost as anticipated as the release of the sled itself was. Looking forward to hearing your impressions!MrSled said:Maybe you should start your own thread and let some other users talk about the sled?? Enough already!! You made your point.

I think that 144 is the way to go. It's exactly the type of sled that i want. I don't ride in the mountains but still like to have a sled that can handle the powder better. Trails are somewhat important and the 6 degree angle back of the skid should be a great solution for that.
I hope they do exactly the same solution if they release a new Apex.

I posted this http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=54691 in the Apex/Attak forum earlier and so far 69 views and no comments. I think the enormity of an Apex XTX hasn't set in...yet!!!Laban said:I think that 144 is the way to go. It's exactly the type of sled that i want. Why couldn't they put this same suspension on a Venture? Man oh man, a 170 hp 144" Venture that turns like an Apex would DEFINITELY make my day.

Kudo's to Yamaha on this one! This is the sled I have been looking for for years! My only dissapointment is now that I have sunk a ton of money into my Apex XTX, I can't afford to go and buy one next year. I'll have to wait a couple of years and hope they keep the model or improve upon it.
IMO Yamaha has been the only manufacture not to have a true crossover sled. Yes, I've owned an Attak, and in it's stock form, it couldn't hold a candle to a Renegade, Crossfire, or Switchback in off trail deep snow conditions. It made for a great long distance cruiser IMO.
Now they have stepped up and filled this gap. I personally think the 144" is the way to go. I was dissappointed to see the Switchback drop to a 136" this year. I wanted to stretch my RTX out to a 144". I bought teh RTX because I love the feel and tunability of the CK suspension. The geometry's wouldn't allow it, so I opted for a ZX-2. Given the choice, I would have much rather bought a factory 144" with CK style suspension.
Reading through this animated post, it's obviously not a sled for everyone, but it fills a void in a very popular niche. Yamaha gets 2 thumbs up from me on this one.

Hey Grizz, what have you done to make your Apex XTX. Got any pics? You got me thinkin and rather than hijack this thread I started a new one called, "121" to 144" is it possible?". If you have any info please post it over there. Thanks

How about a new 115-125 horse mountain sled for the wife?
As long as people are wishing how about a 115-125 horse mountain sled with a 16 X 144 or 153 X 2.25 lightweight track, extro's, EFI, Apex Mountain ergo's and decent ski's. I just took a beating trading in our '07 Phazer Mtn. Lite (P.O.S.) on an '07 RMK 600 H.O. for my wife and she loves the RMK. I would like to have an all Yamaha 4-stroke fleet again, but until Yamaha steps up in this segment I guess I will be forced to have a least one 2-stroke. She has spent some time on my '07 Apex Mountain and loved the handling and ergo's, she just doesn't feel comfortable on a sled that size/HP. She rode the Nytro MTX and said it was too much like the Phazer as far as riding position.
