WHO KNOWS ??

snowaddict, yes the dealer should know what to get you. the spring will have 3 paint marks on it, orange silver orange. there are no settings on it, it replaces your stock primary spring. in the states its about 20.00, in canada about 40.00 bucks.

So Grader, all I have to do is tell them I want the orange/silver/orange primary spring and they'll know what I'm talking about? Is there instructions on settings to install it at? What does the spring cost?

You can also get it from RONNIES online! That's where I got mine! They sell OEM parts and the spring was $16.95. You have to remove the body panel and the clutch cover is held on by 6 bolts, you remove the stock spring and replace it with the O/S/O spring ;)!

o/s/o spring

Ok, I ordered the spring. So, if I install it what can I expect my sled to do now? What RPM should I be expecting? Will this alone add a little more top end speed? Or do I need to adjust or add anything else to make this spring work? I need to to keep up with 2 new Apexs that my lucky buddies are able to afford.

On my 04 Warrior I also shimmed the secondary with 5/16 lock washers.
Before I made the change, I was seeing 10100 RPM with top end of 112 MPH on the speedo.
After the change over I was getting as much as 10700 RPM with a top end of 123 MPH.
At first it did not work too well, but I found the problem to be the clutches where out of alignment. After correcting that, I was then seeing the higher numbers! ;)!

How do you align the clutches on an RX-1?

I've been told the motor is hard mounted and there is no way to adjust the alignment (haven't really looked closely though).

shimming

Hopefully, I won't need to do the shim thing. What should I notice that would be an indication of the spring itself not working or needing to shim? Just out of the box (3rd time I ran it) with this Rx1 I saw 124 on the speedo and it was about 10,100 rpm. My dad has seen 126 on the speedo with his '03. He has some type of clutch kit on it, though. Although, he said it only seemed to help w/bottom end. We raced last week and neither of us could pull ahead of each other. I thought w/mine being 30lbs lighter I'd have an edge. :?:

There is a check for center to center (measured at the shafts) mine was good here! And there is an offset check, using a straight edge you have to check the offset of the front and rear clutches and it has to be within a certain tolerance and if it is out of tolerance you will have to either add or remove shims, and then you will also check the freeplay on your secondary and shim it if needed. Yamaha sells the shims!

Answer to the same question, in which blackjohn provided!
For the center to center adjustment: theres are three bolts to back off, one down by the clutch, one on the other side, and one back by the chain case, it's a long one, as it goes across the whole motor, then pull the motor all the way forward. I had to use some wood wedges to hold it forward so I could tighten it up and hold it in place, then I made up an engine strap to keep it there.

oh, oh

Just got an email back from the speedshop. He said he didn't think just doing that new primary spring will do much. Oh, well I try it this Friday and see if I can't beat the '03 Rx1 with the other clutch kit. If I realize I just peed away $20, I guess I'll have to upgrade to the regular clutch kit from the speedshop.

Bob
Same same results. I ended back at stock clutching. geared-up one tooth and I see 132 on dream meterand 124 on gun. I spin 10,500 but in 3" of snow I pay for the tall gear and can only pull 10,200.
The exhaust mods have caused the torque and H.P curves to shift higher. I do not remember the post but Freddy's dyno print-off proved this. Stock you are on money at 10,500 . (my opinion only)

clutching

that o/s/o spring works veary well in the rx 1 the rate and start and finish rate seems to realy help with out a high engagement note that this spring comes stk in the rx 1 mtn with no rivets in the arms if you find that the rpm,s are a little high go to the next spring doen in total kg (p/g/p) or the g/g/g the o/s/o has the same start rate as stk o/s/o is 35-142 the p/g/p is 40-139 the g/g/g is 40-131 the 1st number is the perload and the finel number is the total force at ful shift out and there are lots of others to pick from as well :flag:

waterboy, if you are seeing 124mph on a radar gun, then the gun is out to lunch or you have one of the fastest non-turboed sleds in north america. if it really is that fast DONT TOUCH IT you dont have to fix what aint broken!.

My sled was lzy on hard pack snow and trails, at 10000 rpm then reving to 10200 when it would over-rev. This is with a shimmed helix and machined helix. I drilled out the tip rivets and now am turning 10400 and reving up to 10600 when it is done shifting. Pretty happy with it.

Next stop is to try a 40 finsih helix.

Just tried a white 2ndary spring in my 05 RX-1, and can not figure out why in the world the pink one is the one they chose.
