Who makes best Adapt Clutch Cover

I usually don't run full throttle very long , as I normally have no real need to. As far as engine coolant temp I have not monitored it on my my cluster when WO but the logs show no major increase in coolant temp for under 20 second WO runs.
The belt temps on my Razor belt temp gage do climb more quickly then eng temps especially on back to back launches when drag racing other sleds.
I have never held the SW WO for very long as it eats up real estate very quickly!

Yes I thought you were set up with one… As long as you got some lube you got no problems holding it for a lot longer.. And yes I hear ya running out of Real Estate really fast and saftey is always top concern… You also have the billet water pump propeller installed so you have that covered as well if I remember right…

Just tell them you want to race them from the dig for 3/4 to 1 mile. They'll see what happens.

Any tuned 998 will generate more btus than the cooling system can get rid of. I watch my coolant temps allot and any time I'm wfo, I can watch coolant temps gradually climb. Time to let off when I see temps approaching 200. Everyone has to remember the coolant temp you see on the cluster is what coolant temp is going into engine from heat exchangers. The coolant leaving main head hose connection is much hotter than that.

Your right Bob and throw in lean fuel conditions with high temps and it's a recipe for disaster. When your dash flashes knock you just gotta cross your fingers that it wasn't the kill shot. This is why it's so important to data log. Your flash will pull timing long before the knock sensor alarms and often times it's pretty persistent. Most of us that know better will be regulating this and adjusting accordingly. Those that don't will pay the price

Did you see this post on HCS with the failed Adapt? My question would be did he blow the belt and break the clutch, or did the clutch fail prior to breaking the belt, either way I'm not sure the Adapt is a real strong clutch either. I believe that they moved to the steel spider on the 858 for a reason and I'd bet this is the reason.

Adapt Primary Failure

Check your adapt Primarys, i believe i found out the reason for them switching to a steel spider.. cost me a new Ultimax belt but could have been worse. 2023 Thundercat with 2000miles

Hi, that clutch is from my 2023 Thundercat, there is 2000 miles on the sled in total, ive only run it boosted for the last 150miles.. no high speed runs, i felt the belt coming apart so let off the trigger, belt failed at 40mph.
Leading up to this failure i had a over rev condition, sled would hit the limiter(9500rpm) at 3/4 throttle.
I added 4 grams of weight thinking my clutching was light but no difference, im thinking now clutch bind was causing the over rev,
I also have a 2021 SRX thus the reason i joined

Sounds like it was loaded way way to light for the tunes then. I'd guess the primary got extremely hot and caused some extreme stress to it. 9500 at 3/4 throttle wasn't even in the ballpark. Not surprised it failed and toasted the primary. Ive seen clutches get so hot an toasty the bushings fall out of them they get so hot. Also seen belts slip so bad in secondary they burn thru the sheaves.

Guess that explains the clutch failure. Can't blame the Adapt there at all.

Actually i was only running the 240hp tune, and only went 1km before stopping and adding 4 grams to the QA3 daltons, so that put me at 77g’s of weight, should not over rev set at that weight for 240, typically i run 78-80g for 310hp

You shouldnt be anywhere near those weights with an adapt unless your running a coil spring from a 1/2 ton pickup for a primary spring or have a setup with wicked wicked pressure in secondary. Those weights you listed are closer to what would be run in the previous team clutch. Adapt typically runs substantially less due to weight location being further out from center. You definitely had something going on with that clutch that wasnt right.

Hurricane recommended 80gs when running 310hp, running Dalton white/aqua in the primary and Dalton Orange Black in the secondary, last year sled was turning up 8800rpms. We are at sea level and typically sleds will pull alot more weight then most aftermarket shops recommend

Yes on yamaha clutches that could be correct which is what your referring to because you mention orange black secondary…….wont be anywhere near that with properly working adapt clutch.

Yes I forgot there is an orange black spring for cat secondary. Did you get the dalton weights from hurricane? If so Dave at hurricane uses yamaha daltons instead of the adapt specific daltons. The yamaha daltons have a flatter profile then the cat specific weights and would require more mass so 75-80 grams would make sense. If your using the adapt specific weights then the mass would be much lighter. Only reason im asking is if you needed alot of mass in cat specific daltons on 240 tune it would of indicated that you likely had an issue with that adapt and would shed some light on your failure. Regardless the adapt seems to be all over the place for durability. Some have held up well and others have low mileage failures. I had confidence in this clutch for 300hp and less but not so sure anymore.
