i had 2 426s and loved them both great bike a big big compared to my 450 but its a beast change the oil more often than not and it will last u a while. tricky bike to start at first but u get the hang of it after a while check the wheels spin them a couple times see if they are warped and ask the guy to statrt it for u once u get it grease all the bearings i really loved that bike it is a great ride

thank you ...
I'm looking at two rite now. one is great condition for $2200 the other is a different story $1600 the front break lever is broken one of the bolts on the triple clamp is broken, the frame is straight no cracks the plastics look good. doesn't look like they took care of it. they didn't even wash the bike...they just road it in the desert. thats why i ask how reliable these bikes are..

I have also had one, great bike! What mods have been done? Best one was the auto decompression, otherwise starting can be a PITA :o|
Thumpertalk is an awesome site with much valuble info. Similar people and info to this one here but for all brands.

The bigger thumpers are actually pretty reliable because you dont have to keep them revved out to get power out of them. The downside to that is you have people who are used to riding 2-stroke bikes who wind out the big thumpes too much and then mushroom the valves in a very short time. A good rule of thumb is that with a 426/450 you should always be in 1 gear higher than you think you should be.
YZ426s were good bikes, but they were VERY tempermental starters.
I agree that Thumpertalk is a great site. I used to own a YZ 250F and I used to frequent Thumpertalk. I learned a lot from that site.
