Why does everyone make such a big deal about sled weight?

Piped, right on the mark. LMAO

But hey, I was the first to mention the earths rotation as a possible reason. And don't forget the horse heading for home idea.

No guys..nothing to due with earth's rotation but rather the magnetic Poles. Same principle as hurricanes and toilets spin clockwise above the equator and counter clockwise below the equator. Beings I'm in Alaska and much closer to the NORTH POLE, I can go 15-20 mph faster when turning to the right versus the left!!!
LOL :D Had ya thinkin for a minute didn't I?

As for weight..I CAN tell the difference. But not so much in the handling, (Feels like one of the old Phazers...on steriods) but in the hillclimbing/High marking. When making my turn, she's harder to throw over. Plus, I can highmark a hill...get off and let my son (85lbs. lighter) on it and he will always beat my mark by at LEAST 50-75ft.
Lighter would be nicer.

Also... aluminum is not subject to the force of magnetism.[/quote]

LB, this statement is not entirely true. Did you ever hear of an eddy current magnet used in the sorting of non-ferrous metals, ie. aluminum ??

LB,

I prefer " The Great Lazy One" to "LazyBastard"

I never did think you should be takin your Mommas name in vain. :)

Since you brought it up, I think a good spring project for the forum, would be to have a poll to come up with a new name for you.

I have never seen a member who has had more suggestions for name changes as you.

Perhaps you could take "suggestions" for a week or so and then pick a 1/2 dozen favourites for us to vote on.

You could always renege, like the great plebiscite believer, Stockwell Day,
who refused to change his first name to "Doris" even though the CBC followed his rules in running their vote of the people. [ For you non Canuks, Mr. Day was the leader of the opposition in the Canadian Parliament ]

Wrong !! That is a regular electromagnet. It is used after the ferrous metal is removed, it separates conductive materials, ie. aluminum, from similar density materials, like plastics. It's used in automotive shredding operations.

Checkout www.globalmagnetics.com/link7.html For an explanation.

They didn't say anywhere in there that magnetic force is acting on the aluminum, in fact, its electrostatic force ("charged particles"). The magnetic eddy currents just get the electrons moving.

If aluminum moving through a magnetic field generates charged particles and then repels the aluminum because of this charge, I would have to conclude that the aluminum is subject to magnetic forces. It is, however, not in the classic sense, ie. magnetic attraction, but charged particles that cause it. That is why I said you weren't entirely correct. Magnetic, no, but can it be effected by magnetic forces, yes. It is the magnet that makes the process work.
After all, weren't some of the prior posts talking about an aluminum chassis sled moving through the earths magnetic field?
I think it has to do with the rare earth magnets in the mag.
