Why is my pto driveshaft bearing always dry

I put mobil 1 full synthetic grease in this bearing every spring, this past year, I barely put 300 miles on the sked, checked it this spring, it looked almost starved of grease.
I don't pull the bearing to grease it, just pull the dust seal, and pack .
Maybe it isn't getting enough doing it this way, I even spin the track to rotate more into it, still looked bone dry.
Is this bearing deeper and requires lots more grease I should push into it, I couldn't find where it would have slung any out either.

This bearing needs a zerk fitting badly! I've blown 2. One had 300 miles on it before i put it away for summer so i didn't touch it. I change it EVERY year no matter what! Only takes me 10 minutes to change. First of all, even new it comes with very little grease. Secondly, it heats up then gets splashed with ice cold snow on one side at 10,000 rpm's. I think that seal just expands & shrinks just enough to loose grease. Every year i look at that bearing & it doesn't feel "happy". I now put extra grease in new bearing & it seems to do the trick, although i still change it EVERY year...

Try some Bel-Ray water proof grease ! I have had great luck with it..

Tried it. Same results. Don't get me wrong, when i took new bearings & added extra grease, i had good results. BUT, for $20 & 10 minutes, i change bearing EVERY year...

are you speaking of lower drive shaft or upper jack shaft?

Over greasing a bearing will make it heat up and melt the grease out. If you are not carefull you can push the seal out on the other side. Maybe the inner seal is damaged in some way or not seated properly! I flush and regrease the Jack shaft and driveshaft bearings every year on the sled.

As Sasquatch mentioned above you have to be careful to not"overgrease" a bearing. They come from the factory with what looks like minimal grease for a reason.
The enemy to any bearing is heat and with the more grease in the bearing the more friction is created!
When greasing, remember just enough to cover all moving parts.
Cheers!

You do realize this post was from July 2017??

Haha yes.... Can you say I am excited for next year?
Yeah been there done that, but at least I’m still riding, I’m excited for next ride!!

I HAD 28,000 KM ON ORIGINAL 2006 YAMAHA BEARING. PACK EVERY YEAR, FULL WITH AMSOL SYNTHETIC GREASE.
JUST CHANGED BEARING THIS YEAR WHEN I HAD ENGINE OUT AND IT WAS STILL PERFECT. YOUR SEAL IS PROBABLY PUSHED OUT THE OTHER SIDE, DOES IT LOOK GREASY ON BACK SIDE OF JACK SHAFT ?

This seems kinda slick, can grease on/off thru season with a squirt here and there without over greasing. Someone local to me, have no idea who and not affiliated with him so not promoting or making money, just sharing info.

Looks like Travis at BOP selling this part now.

So this greaser that Travis is selling does it bolt on permanently or do you just hold it in place to grease upper and lower bearings?

Leave on sled, remove seal from bearing and now can grease whenever. Should never have to replace the driveshaft bearing ever again.
