Hi, I am a newbie, so bear with me on this one. Is there any reason why I should not trade in my 98 VMAX for an 05 Vector ER GT with 1300 miles? I only ride trails and I don't go fast unless I have good visibility on a lake or long field.
Your help is appreciated. Thank you

I have the 06', it has plenty of power and handles great. It will be a big up grade for you. Whats the asking price?

The dealer is asking over $5K. I see that the average "Black Book" retail is $4500, but this sled only has 1300 miles. I am thinking that if he will come down a few hundred that it is in the ballpark.
Any thoughts?

I don't think the GT came out until 2006.

I think you are correct. To get the front clicker shocks you had to buy them seperate and have them installed.

IMO - I don't care if it does have 1300 miles it's not worth $5000+. You can buy a new one with a warranty for mid 7's.

I'll sell you mine for $5000. ;)!

Price is too high, I just picked up a clean 05 Vector ER with 1900 miles and a few extras for $4k

:hide: Sorry, my mistake, it is only a Vector ER, not GT. Thank you for the correction.
Are there any other mechanical or electrical reasons that this sled should be avoided?
I am still thinking that the dealer will come down, plus if he will take my older machines on trade, then I don't have to hassle with selling them. I am so on the fence, though. I know I can get more for them on the open market then the dealer can give me. He needs to pay the heat and lights and pay his bills, too.
Thanks, again for your comments.

I wouldn't buy this sled purely for the rear suspension. It rides like a late 80's Polaris skid. At the minimum, you need to install a $400 rear track shock or replace the entire skid with an M10 or similar.

Spend a little more $$ and look for an 06 or newer with the Monoshock skid. You be much happier....IMO

I agree with others, that I would look for an 06' or newer with the Mono. I really like the Mono on my 07' Rage. It can be quickley adjusted to ride like a Cadillac or ridden hard over the stutter bumps all by turning the dial. G.B.

I had a chance to buy an 07 Vector ER with 300 miles on it for $5200 from my dealer in Sept. but the wife didnt want it so we let it go.

I ride an 05 Vector and upgraded the rear shock. I love my machine, but how could I not as I came from a 94 indy 500 sks.

If you are in fact mostly a 'groomed' trail rider, you will love the ride. You could do better, but its still a sweet machine for groomed trails.

Power to spare, scary fast in the trees and one of the best mileage machines at there. Very reliable. ;)!

Thank you everyone for your input. The yeas have it. I did the deed and traded two VMax 2-strokes, along with some cash for the Vector. The upgrade is nothing but awsome. I just hope we get a few more inches of snow, so I can take it out for a good ride.

Ride safe and tread lightly.

It just has to be setup right. There is nothing wrong the 05 suspension. Mine feels just like an 08 ltx mono. The 05 has many adjusting capabilities. Yamaha is still flip flopping with these suspensions. Look at the FX Nytro. Very similar to an 05 Vector.

I would disagree with this statement. If you look at latter years of the pro-active such as in the FX Nytro the rails are beefed up, the pivot arm is beefed up and there are clicker shocks all the way around. Maybe if all you ride is groomed trails it might hold up but I doubt it. My pivot arm failed, rails failed, and rear shock shouldn't have ever been put on this skid..I have since put another Pro-active in my sled with clicker shocks, beefed up pivot arm and different springs. So far so good but time will tell.

I made the same switch back in Nov '04. Went from a '98 Vmax to my '05 Vector. I have been extremely happy with the switch and consider it a big step up (including skid) That old Vmax (sx model) was a blast but it beat me to death.

I'm with the others though, that is way too much to pay for an old '05. I paid little more than that for mine back when it was new.
