I have a 05 RX-1 with CPR air kit and clutching, with stock gearing.
I can pull on just about all the guys in my group. But by about 70 mph by the stock speedo they all start to pull back up on me.
We always drag up to about 100 mph, by then most of the guys have past me.
So would gearing it down help me in the 70-100 mph range?
Thanks for any advice you can give me...

I wouldnt be to quick to gear down, I kinda had the same situation 2 years ago then I made a few changes, External drivers, opened the holes in the track and added clips,Sync the carbs, orange/silver/orange primary spring, silver secondary spring,ECP kit and filters,loose-loose track (loose is fast) seems that now people dont go past me,I can even out run my brothers new Apex pretty bad, Gearing down wont help if you cant put the power to the snow, youll just spin the track faster

Gearing down helps at engagement, not top speed. It'll give you better holeshot.

Need Snow, I also have a 05 rx1 with filters, jetting and chutching and I'm geared 23/38 with 160 studs. I also raced 4 other Apex's to a 100 mph and they can't beat me on hard pack trail. I would say it's about a 1/4 mile.

Those must be some pretty fast sleds to be catching you at high speeds after you smoke them out of the hole..
I know my old Rx-warrior (now my brothers) would take every sled i ride with by 5 plus sleds and keep on a pulling..
What RPMS are you pulling?? is your belt worn? Track too tight??
Gearing down a APex is supposed to increase top speed, so i would think that gearing down the Rx-1 would work also.. as the apex is geared lower than the Rx-1 to begin with

Yeah gearin down does help less off a load on the engine

sdracer...
You are at 23/38, I think stock is 24/38. So if I go down 1 size on top can I use the stock chain ?
My RPMs are good around 10.300. I put on a new belt every year, My track could be a bit on the tight side. 144 studs down the middle. I also put on track wear pads last year but, didn't see a deference in that speed range.
I have 2 sleds that drive me nuts, 04 F-7 and a CPR piped VIPER. The F-7 has to work hard to get me, but the VIPER gets me everytime...

Need Snow, Stock chain works fine with the 23/38 gearing. You will like the way the sled will pull with the 23/38 gearing.

I am interested in doing this also. I still have the stock 03/121 gears in mine. I didn't change them when I went to 136. Plus since I put in the M10, it won't pull the skis at all. A buddy of mine on here suggested 23/40 for new gear sizes. I am more interested in hole shots and being able to pull the skis a bit on moguls. What do you guys think?

It probably won't pull the ski's because the M10 does not transfer very well.

I geared down 2 teeth and bought a Hauck speed sheave. Top end is about the same. Definately helps. You will need a new chain however.

I would need a new chain with 23/40? Whats a speed sheave and what does it do? What size are my stock gears?
Thanks for the advice.
after looking it all over, I think I will try the 23 top gear and see if it hellps me in the 60 - 100 mph range. I will post this winter on how it worked out... Gary.

23/40 will work with the stock chain. 23/42 will NOT - it requires 72 link chain (not available OEM, only aftermarket, but then so is the gear).
