Hi gents, I posted this question in the RS forum a few days ago, but haven't gotten any replies. Anyone care to comment? Here's a copy of my post:

I'm considering a set of lightly used (4-5 rides) Simmons Gen II skis for my '06 Venture to give it more float when riding off trail. It currently has stock skis. The seller says he had them on an '08 Nytro. Is the mounting the same for both of these machines?

Also, he states that no hardware is included. I don't currently have access to my Venture to have a look, so I have no idea what additional hardware I would have to buy (if anything) or where to get it. Any ideas? Would my stock hardware just swap over? (I've never changed skis before, so sorry for the stupid question).

I've done a fair amount of research on what guys have done to improve the performance and handling of these Ventures (this site is great!), and I think the Simmons Gen II will suit my needs pretty well. I have not, however, ridden on anything but my stock skis. Any last minute opinions before I complete the transaction? FYI, I ride mostly lakes, old logging roads, RR beds, and thru the woods/fields type stuff. It's pretty rare that I do any high speed or long distance trail riding. Thanks for the input!!!

PS, I'm also considering the Yami mountain skis that other guys have had luck with. Either way, it looks to be about 300 bucks when it's all said and done for either new mountain skis plus carbides or the lightly used Simmons. Sound reasonable?

No experience with the Gen 2, sjut 1. I assume the mounting is the same, just a much wider ski. You will need the Simmons Yamaha mount, if he does not include it. Dont know the price but it should be pretty reasonable, it's pretty simple. Stock mount is integral to the ski and will be of no help. I would think that Gen 2 would be a bit wide for trail use, just my opinion.

Thanks for the reply sk. Hmmm, I'll have to double check the description with him. He said they came off the '08 Nytro, but also said no hardware was included. Perhaps he means just the integral mount as you describe is included. I'll have to clarify.

So, just so I'm clear - the Simmons skis ALL come with the SAME integral mount, and all the hardware is completely separate for different makes of snowmobile? If this is the case, I could find ANY set of Simmons skis, and no matter what sled they came from, they would fit my Venture after sourcing a manufacturer specific mount?

So my stock hardware would be of no use then?

Thanks all....

The plastic body of the Simmons skiis is just flat. They use a formed stainless bracket that bolts on to the ski and ties in the front loop. The mount is specific to different sleds but I beleive all recent Yamaha's are the same. That piece off a Nytro will work I believe, you will need it regardless. The Yamaha ski body has moleded "structure" as part of the plastic ski with bushings where the blt goes through, no separate mount since the late 90's when they had an aluminum channel piece. If he seller is going to another Gen Simmons ski he wll need the mount piece, if he is going to a different brand he has no use for them. I believe if you find the Simmons website you can see the pieces and the price on the mounts.

I know that a set of Yamaha Mountain skiis will mount right on to your venture....the only thing you will need is a longer thru bolt.

Yamaha sells a kit that includes the bolt and a couple of spacers...seems like it was right around $40 when I put mountain skiis on my wife's venture. Ski's are less than $100 (each) from Yamaha.

The handles and carbides will fit with no problems.

The mountain ski really helps out the venture in deep powder.

If you buy the simmons Gen 2's and the hardware for it doesn't fit your sled, just call Simmons up and tell them you need the mounting kit. They can get you the appropriate kit.

Newer Yamahas use 2 different mounts. the "Wide" mount is about 4 inches across the saddle and the normal mount is only 3.

The difference I believe is the wide is used on all the mountain sleds to create more adjustability by sliding the skis in or out for a different ski stance.

they can be interchanged by changing bushings and bolts and spacers.

Ya but I don't think the Simmons are adjustable width wise like that and don't have the spacers like the Yammi Mt skis have to adjust ski stance with.

My thoughts are the spindles and ski mounting locations for his sled will accept the Gen 2's mounting hardware and the skis will bolt right on. But on the odd chance the right hardware aren't on the skis, Simmons is really good about getting hardware out to people.

I had my hardware rust out on my Gen 1 skis and one of their fanged elevator bolts broke that holds the mounts onto the Simmons skis. I called up Simmons and Hope (she answers the phone) mailed me new hardware for all around the skis no questions asked. Great customer service there.

Simmons offers two different mounts for yamaha. One is labeled just yam i think, and the other is labeled Yam wide.

I have simmons on my vector mountain and they came with the regular mounts. I had to cut my bushings and use shorter bolts.
Those skis came off of a non-mountain nytro.

Thanks a ton for all the replys guys. I think I'll go ahead and try the Simmons, as it sounds like they should fit properly and I should be able to get any additional hardware required pretty easily.
