Wired grips nice and hot, went for a ride, plugged in my visor, shortley after left grip went cold, any advice?? fuse maybe?? one grip??

was going to ask what grips, what wiring?

But I think in all cases it would be loose, disconnected, or broken wires or a burnt out grip. Put an ohm meter on your left grip wires, what is the reading?

The plug in was wired to the cig.lighter outlet from the dealer had the dealer wire the grips like the diagram. I have it apart it apear to be wired right I think. Are the two grip on separate fuses??

hmm....my sled is wired exact same way...shield hardwired to cigar lighter wire underneath....

what type of shield is it?..mine is HJC.

I was going to wait until morning to check fuses, if ok will try other test, or bring back to dealer, this is really messed up, was happy for a little while..

either you have a plugin not plugged in properly or possibly a burned out grip...did you run them real hi for awhile?...those hotgrips are pretty durable though....so i dont see it being burned out.

Id bet it somehow came un-plugged maybe or wire is pinched, check all connections and wire in loom ect...check power at the plugin to see if its hot....which come from 07 harness...should be all good there...

keep us posted on findings.

results left hand warmer

Checked fuses today and I had a 3amp fuse blown, decided I didn't want to risk this any more so I changed the rewire back to it's original set up. For now I will just get some gautlets, thanks for the input. Still I guess there must be a fuse separate from one hand warmer to the other. Maybe this set up will still work but I don't want to chance it yet. My buddy has the 07 RTX with 06 Bars hase't had the prob. yet but just had it done yesterday. I don't know if plugging in the elect. visor did it or not, or maybe there wasen't a good connection, but I just want to ride without worries..

I am sure the 3amp fuse you replaced was for your accessory plug. It has been very common for this fuse to blow when running the electric shield off of it. I am sure it had nothing to do with your handwarmers. Wire the shield to the battery for best results.

No it does not run through that circuit.

You need to wire your shield in elsewhere or up the fuse size, probably to 5 amps if you insist on running the shield through the socket.

I had to change to a 5 amp fuse since the dealer wire my electric shield to that circuit. Even a 5a I the fuse will sometimes go. I've replaced it once this year in the 1000 miles I've ridden.

Seems wrong that a 5 amp fuse would go from running a visor through it.

The visors only take something like 1 amp and I wired in a 2 amp fuse on my last sled and put almost 20,000 km on it without any trouble - not a single blown fuse ever.

On my 07 RTX I use that same circuit and the stock 3 amp fuse hasn't gone yet either (and I don't expect it to).

Unless your also running something that takes much more power I'd be taking a look at your shield/cables/wiring.

I run a Garmin GPSMap 60 CS from the accesory port and the heated shield is wired into that somehow. Last year in QC I burned out a 3amp and replaced it with a 5amp. My heated shield starting freezing up on the 5th day of riding in QC this season and I put in a new 5amp. My theory is the bouncing of the GPS power adapter in the accessory jack creating occassional intermittent contact and maybe a smalll arc, but I'll dig around anyway at your suggestion.

Thanks
Jack
