Anyone with the Signature Series studs, how are they holding up?

Used to run the Gold Diggers, but the Sigs look like a good stud for less $$.

Also, used round alum. backers previously, what would be the advantage by using the triangular shaped backers that Woody's has now?

As with everything, how they stand up has a lot to do with the conditions you normally ride....

Having said that, I've got 4600 miles on 162 SS Woody's with round aluminum backers (also Woody's) and have zero broken or significantly bent. Dad is the same with about 5500 miles.

We ride a lot of excellent trails, however, many areas are full of granite, road burns, etc. so I'd say we put them through their paces regularly.

IMO, I'd never use anything but Woody's SS again. The just work for me.

I really don't think that for the average rider their's any difference between the round and square backers - as long as the squares are sufficiently THICK! Too thin and the edge will easily bend and cut into the track. For that reason, I'd stay round if possible, but I don't think it really matters if they are of good quality.

I have about 3300km on my SS studs, no bends, nor breaks or pullouts. Great stud for the money.

Never heard of the triangular shaped ones, however I prefer the round backers, as it is easier to install. You don't have to align them as you would a square backer. Also, with the square backers, you'd want to check them regularly to see is they aren't twisting 45 degrees and theoretically cause a puncture in the track.

Have 2500 miles on my 144 Signature studs. None bent or broken, but one pullout likely due to it being on the outer belt. I think I know when I did it, and I'm happy I didn't do more damage.

Before I bought them I called Woody's and a guy ther claimed they put a lot of R&D time in the development of the Sig studs. So far, if I had to I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

I have 900 miles on my SS studs and would recommend them as well. Try the Woody's double aluminum backers (rectangular), they have held up real well for me.

The triangle backers are recommended for competition use only and not recommended for trail applications.

Studs

Spoke to a Woody's rep, his recommendation for the Apex if you want to stay just in the center belt of track is to go with 144 using single & double backers, and recommends the use of Gold Diggers with the "big nuts".

SRXSPEC is correct on the triangular backers as they are for competition only.

Weight of SS or Gold Diggers

Anyone compare the weight difference between the Signature Series studs with the same size & quantity of the Gold Diggers studs?
