I am back in Albany NY after a brief hiatis in florida for the last 8 years. Before I left I had two skii doos...a 98 formula 111 700 triple(which I really liked!) and a 96 formula SS 670. I am 48 years old and going off trail is not for me. I will be riding mostly in the Adirondacks on grromed trails . I really really like 0-85 bursts of accelerating speed but I do need a comfortable ride for my aging back. I am not a snocrosser by any means but I like a sled to have ALOT of get up and go as well as handling when needed! I am not a lake racer either unless it is a friendly drag.
I had a Yamaha 270 hp twin jet boat in Florida and presently I have a 700 cc Raptor quad. Let me know what you guys think!!

Stay away from a phazer or FX nytro
That leaves vector, rx, or apex. depending on your price range. Apex is probably the best. Get a GT model and it will ride nice, handle good, and run for years

Using the criteria you listed, my opinion would be a 08/09 Vector LTX. Great lowend and midrange power, great ride with the 136 Mono, and phenomenal fuel mileage. I rode one in 08 at the TY demo in Munising, If I didn't already own an Attak, I would be riding one of these today. VERY impressed with the ride and handling. I am a big guy (300 lbs.) and it rode great. The 120 hp 3 cylinder motors are eal sleepers. My partner rides an 06 Rage, and regularly gets 20 mpg. Best of luck with your decision

Sounds like you are somewhere between a Vector and a Apex. The vector is a 120 hp, so it will get up and go, but nothing like an apex, which has 150 hp. If you really want a plush ride with some get-up, maybe the Vector GT is your sled.

I really prefer some get up and go. Before I was moving to Florida I was looking at a Mach Z. I had modified my engines in my Jet boat to get up and go as well. That is why I got the raptor 700...I slow down for corners..LOL I am 185 pounds and 5 '10" if that helps...what are the differences with the Apex models? Price is not really an issue

If a Mach Z would be your choice of Doo, then the Attak/Apex LTX GT, would be your choice as far as Yamaha's go. The 150 will get decent mileage if you want it to. I would try to find a left over 40th as you'll get the Ohlins all around. To me for what you would do 136" all the way. Plan to get a set of skis as well, maybe wait a month or two on the skis as many are trying Curves this year and it seems like a great ski for the Yams. Soon we will all know. Avoid the 06' Attak unless updates have been doneto the rear skid/shock. 07' should be fine, but like I said 08' 40th would be the best choice.

^^^^^ what he said. The 120 has plenty of oompf to haul bigger guys around. The difference between the 120 and 150 is mainly noticed above 80 mph. If you ride a lot at higher speeds or flat out on lakes, go for the 150. Just my opinion, but for trail riding I like the handling of the 120. 20+ mpg all day long is nice too. Not much weight difference, but from what I heard the engine sits lower and tipped farther rearward due to not using the gear reduction system that the 150 needs.

For reference my 03 rx1 that is over geared (25T top gear) and under revved (9900 rpm) for off nitrous running against my old mans stock 05 vector 120hp we run even up to about 45mph, then I gain a sled length up to 85 mph, then his is done around 100 and mine goes up to 110.
For more reference if your familiar with the yamaha viper 2 strokes and how they compared to your ski doo's, my clutched, studded, air intake, upgraded track, 02 viper 700 was DEAD even against dads sled up to 90mph where we both left off. He didn't have studs, just the stock ripsaw.
The vectors are underrated, they move. Were installing a 21T top gear which suppoedly makes them a titch better yet. He loves his vector.
Also another side point is that he threw his into a tree on a icy corner and we were amazed at how strong they were. They are heavy but tough as nails!

If price isn't an issue, I would get a Apex LTX GT. It may end up having more power than you need, but at least you have it when you want it. If you were to get a Vector, you could find yourself wishing you that extra juice sometimes.
Regardless of what you decide to get, I'd also recommend that you get an LTX model. People really seem to like the 136 inch track.

Whichever engine you can afford or justify spending but definately 136 inches. I've owned both and will not go back to a 121...........
Marq is 1000% correct, with the bigger engine if you don't want to go fast you let off the throttle. If you have the smaller engine and want more you're screwed........

What he said, plus remember that the 150 (Apex) is FI. Which to me, is huge. Not that your goning to have issues with the carbs as many have them and there really doesn't seem to be any complaints. I just prefer F.I. The 150 is just intoxicating.

There. Clear as mud now? Good thing the factories make different models for different riding styles. If you can, take a Vec and an Apex for a spin through the trails and see which one suits you the best. Both are fine sleds. I've ridden RX1's, Attaks and the new Phazer and Nytro. All nice.
I got lucky, as I bought mine back in late '04 when the 120 Vec was just released. Couldn't ride one first, as nobody had them yet and no snow was on the ground. Crossed my fingers and did it. Everyone told me I was going to be sorry and it was a bad idea to buy a first run sled. I've had great luck with it and still enjoy the sled a lot. I'd love to have a newer one with the DBII chassis, but I'm not ready to part with mine yet. Does what I want it to do and does it well.
Good luck with your choice.
