2003 Yamaha RX-1
F/S my 2003 RX-1 Silver Addition Turbo. Approx. 600 miles on the conversion, which includes the following: Full Power turbo kit at 8 PSI/220+ (HP on premium gas. Low comp. pistons and new rods.
Four new exhaust expansion joints and donut gaskets. Rebuilt clutch and converter. All new drive train bearings. Micro Belmont 1 1/4 inch drive axle. Avid sprockets- external drive. New suspension wheels.
New 1 1/4 inch Ice Ripper track. New larger top gear and chain. Boivin Expert X skid.)

Price is $6500 (6200miles on the odometer) and from the looks of this sled its very clean.

My buddy is looking to buy a sled but he is hesitant on the year (older sled) I like my 03 and think its reliable. He likes the Appex but is also looking at an 09 cat z1 turbo. I thought this sled was a heck of a deal with all thats been done. I told my buddy "we should look at it and tell the guy we want to ride it for at least 30min just to make sure everything is ok and sound, before making a purchase, and check the compression". What would you guys buy, what do think about this sled, and is there anything else to inspect for if you were to buy this sled?

Not me! For that price around here (and I live in canada) you could get a nice apex or nytro. It wouldn't have turbo, but then I don't need turbo. I have an 03 also and love it but my next sled will definatly be efi

I think it would be a really cool sled but it is hard to sell such a highly modded machine. But if everything was done right it should still be a reliable trail sled.

I know where I live I could find a nice Apex or Attak for that kinda money and that's what I'd get. But if someone wants a sled with those mods its probably a good deal since you couldn't buy a sled and do those mods for less. It all depends on what your looking for.

Turbos on the rx's (carbed) were fun but a lot of work. With the EFI sleds you just change the gems controller for elevation and other changes. On my 03 turbo it was constant jet changes and octane #'s were critical. You had to be a chemist and an engineer to keep it going properly.

So he ended up getting a brand new 2013 Apex SE (Christmas bonus) from "Highlands Yamaha" still in the crate.! He was going to get the 2015 Apex SE, however, there was none in this area nor could the dealers order one..? We are picking it up this Saturday.
