If Yamaha ceased production of sleds...What would you buy?

I'm leaving for the dark-side next year. Should never have gone for a test-ride... I'm hooked!

Hope you don't mind me popping in here every now and then. Still has a few nice memories of my 04 Warrior and my 05 RS Venture TF, just got a too good of a deal on the Lynx... ;)!
Ive seen the specs on some of those Lynx sleds and they look pretty sweet. Isnt a Lynx basically a European version of a Ski-Doo? There was an article about them in one of the snowmobile magazines a few years ago and from I could tell it looks like they are similar but that the Lynx has a few minor differences from the Doo.
Anyway, best 'o luck with the new sled, RSV. I hope it gives you many happy miles.
I know what you mean about going to the dark side. I used to own a '90 Phazer II which I loved. I really wanted to find a nice 600 SXr but wasnt able to. I managed to get a sweet deal on an '01 Polaris 600 XC EDGE X. My heart wasnt really in it but the deal was too good to pass up. I will be back on a Yamaha someday (I still wear all my Yamaha clothing even though I ride a Polaris). Sometimes you have to buy what you can afford, even if it isnt exactly what you want.
Im sure that no one will mind you coming on here even though you dont own a Yamaha.

I was thinking of the Nytro originaly, but I got the chance to ride this years Lynx Rave 800, and just couldn't get it out of my head.
I have owned only Lynx (5 in total) and Yamaha (4 in total) since I started riding (in '86). :D

With sled sales dropping annually (and ATV sales steadily increasing, I might add), one wonders how much longer the Big Four will keep pouring money into the snowmobile market. How much money do they make on sleds? Must be a lot, to justify updating so frequently and trying to stay ahead in what is probably the most competitive consumer market in the motoring world.

What would happen to AC? Would they simply go out of business? I believe the only other market they're in is ATVs. I doubt they could survive on that alone. The other three, in particular Yamaha, have so many other markets that losing their snowmobile line wouldn't hurt the overall company.
I wonder how long they would tolerate any one of their product lines not making $$$. Think of how much had to be spent to put together this 2006 lineup. Had to be millions!

I haven't paid attention to the Ski-Doo stuff. Is that what they call a Ski-Doo Lynx? What did Artic Cat have to say about that?

If I didn't have my RX-1Mtn it would be a Polaris RMK 900. The wife's 900 RMK has 920+ miles (90% of those are mtn deep powder riding) and no problems. As I see it though; get a M-10 and a SC for the '03 we're good til the sled falls apart. ;)!

It is not a Ski doo 'lynx'. Like the old Artic cat lynx.

Lynx is a Bombardiere made whole line up of sleds sold in Europe. Different front suspensions, sometimes different motors. So same manufacturer and similar line ups and sleds.

i would quit the sport all together. nothing compares to the very dependable yamahas.

Make sure you don't call yourself a sledder then. Maybe a Yamahaer. :drink:

I would build my own custom sled based on whatever chassis that would fit my needs (yamaha I guess), put in a proper suspension, and a RX type motor (I guess they will be availabe for a while) and turbo it 300+ HP.

Would I go to other brands? AC? NO!, POO! NO way out! Ski-Doo? Possibly, but not until they can prove themself as engine builders and come up with a performance 4stroke (NO - a watercraft engine will not do).

Lynx and Ski-Doo has similar motors and then the similarities ends, most everything else is different on the Lynx. Bombardier did buy the Lynx Company only a few years ago but they still make their own kind of sleds. The RAVE lineup of sleds from Lynx are the most ready to race snowx sled to this day out of the box. Lynx hq are in Rovaniemi in northern Finland. But I'm not racing snowx so I stick with Yamaha. :yam:

Well it sounds like some strong opinions. I owned cats in the seventys and yamaha from 80 on. What i would do is buy a black cat and stuff one of my yamaha motors under the hood. What does bother me is that any one would talk about yamaha stopping production on there sled line when there the first out of the gate and every one else is trying to catch up with there designs and power. just my opinion.
