I have owned my 03 RX1 since last year and i am absolutely a big fan of the 4 stroke motor..! I have been looking for an Apex seat and happen to come across this...
WRP Mountain Assault Seat Kit 2003-07 Yamaha Apex Plus 2"
I want to know if anyone has installed this on there RX1? Is there a reason why everyone is taking the time to fabricate there sled for the Apex seat, or is it because WRP didn't label this properly..? I myself thought this was a typo, however, there website shows a picture of the RX1 seat to match this kit, and supposedly this kit requires no mods to the gas tank cover..? I have searched the forums and have yet to find anyone with this kit on there RX1 and I would hate to spend $299.00 without any solid information on this setup. Can anyone PLEASE shine some light this way..? I don't know how much longer my arse can take this stock suspension with this stock seat..!

you will have to cut the tank shroud as that is a 06-10 apex seat and the rx seat pan does not have the glove box like the apexes do, so you might have to fab something. put that kit on my brothers 04 war but he already had the apex seat mod done to it so we had the right seat pan.

According to WRP this seat is only for years 03-07.. Like you said, I would have assumed the seat was for an Apex, however, the photo they show for direct fitment is clearly the seat from an RX1..
I attached the photos directly off the site.

I am gonna have to call WRP and speak to someone tomorrow about this.. I question where it says "this seat utilizes factory storage compartment". Here I was looking into buying a used Apex seat and installing the wrp 2" kit on it.. I will be a happy camper if this seat does in fact mount right to my pan, even if i have to fabricate something for the trunk, that's fine by me. This kit sure would save me some time and money.

maybe they saw the need for an all rx seat for all the older sleds. that was not up on their site the last time I was there. let us know what they say when you call. I have an old rx pan laying around that it would be nice to do this to kind of as an exchange for rx guys.

Just spoke with the owner at WRP....! This seat is a NEW DESIGN...! I said to him " the APEX title was very misleading until i did some research, I believe your sales could double by next month if you change your listing to an RX1/other models to 07..." he was contacting there Web person right away to change the listing to an 03-07 RX1/other models!!
The questions i asked, and that he answered....He said, "the storage compartment is build into the seat and shouldn't require any modifications, this seat will mount directly to your factory pan and there shouldn't be any modifications necessary to the tank cover, i have sold 12 this month and haven't had anyone call to report problems with fitment, the seat you see in the picture is going to be the seat you get" Ordering mine today..!I created a separate thread in RX general talk maim, i wanted to share my information and findings with the site, i hope it doesn't break site rules..?

Doess that seat come with a pan ? If it does then thats a deal and the price of used apex seats just went down if it doesnt it cant be used on a rx1 with out a apex pan as the seat pans are very diffrent higher in both the front and rear and the apex pan has the trunk rx does not it wont fit already tried to fit a stock apex seat foam and cover to a rx pan it was a no go the cover matrial was way to short to stapel in the front and back only secure ment was on the sides. Never mind i didnt see the last post scrolled to fast hope it is desgened for the rx pan let us know if u get one and it works

I did just check out the WRP site and it doesn't come with a seat pan, you have to reuse the RX pan. For $40 you can send in your pan and they will install it which doesn't seem bad. I'm actually interested in this. I was thinking of an Apex seat, but for the same money if I don't have to modify anything that makes the WRP more appealing. The only thing that makes me take a second thought about a different seat is whether my RX Seat Jack will work with it. I'm not even sure if the Apex seat will work with the RX Seat Jack. The RX Seat Jack fits real snug around my stock seat so that would be the only thing that would hold me back. I'm not sure about trying to modify my seat either. I don't know how that would turn out, upholstery isn't my thing.

the kit does not come with a pan. you are supposed to reuse your old pan.

I was thinking about sending it in as well, however, i figured the shipping charge there and back wouldn't be worth the money...I did just check out the WRP site and it doesn't come with a seat pan, you have to reuse the RX pan. I have yet to do the installation guys..
I ended up saving that project as well as with a sled wrap, jetting, clutching and suspension for this season.. It sure is coming up awful quick... My sled is in storage down south with my buddies Apex. I told him last month i want to get it back here by the beginning of Oct. needless to say we haven't went down there yet. I will DEFINITELY be posting pics when the mod is complete guys! I want to have everything i purchased last season installed by mid November. However, if i finish sooner i will be sure to post pictures and give a brief description of how the install went.
