WTF??? Changed the oil, now the sled won't run...

Ok I've done this a million times and I did everything the same this time accept I didn't change the oil filter.... Because with the yamcharger on there its an SOB to get to the filter so I just left it for now and figred I'd change it next time.. Drained the oil from the motor and tank, refilled the tank with about 2 and 1/4 qts and put a splash in the motor. Started it up and it ran for about 45 seconds and shut off.. So I checked the oil, it was about a qt low, expected since I was not done filling it... Tried to start the sled and it just turns over and dosn't fire, and I get a flashing yellow light and engine light on the dash as Im turning it over...

Whats up with this???? Help...

It sounds like you low oil pressure switch, killed the motor. You must have got a slug of air in the system when you changed the oil. happenen to me when i changed my oil pan. Drain some out of the tank pour it in threw the valve cover, that should get the pump primed again. you may need to do this several times, motor will keep running when you get pressure.

Or lift the right side of the sled up higher then then left and let it sit there overnight and air bubble should work its way out the tank.

The owners manual is trash. I've read over them several times, I have a full on yamaha service manual and if you read my sig you'd know I have a yamcharger which changes the oil change procedure so reading the manual means nothing.. So maybe if you don't have anything to contribute you could keep your ignorant comments to yourself.

Back to the subject at hand... Im not hearing the fuel pump when I turn the key either, Im heading out to the garage to look things over...

Check all your fuses. Maybe somehow one went bad, especially if your not hearing the fuel pump cycle.

Checked some fuses and didn't find much, swapped the relays around to see if that had any affect.. No fuel pump when I turn the key but the relay clicks.. Im done for the night, start again tomorrow after work..

IDK, Im still not getting the usual fuel pump sound when the key is turned. I hear the relay click but nothing from the fuel pump... Is it possible that the fuel pump chit the bed?? I swapped a few of the relays around to see what happened and nothing helped, still got the click but nothing from the pump... When I turn the key the sled turns over like crazy and after a second or two the yellow warning light and the engine symbol flash repeatedly.. Im at work now but will be tearing into it when I get home if I have enough time.. I'll try unplugging the speed sensor and see what happens...

Has anyone had a fuel pump failure on an apex?? I've heard alot about the relays but never heard someone with a pump failure... Im still stumped on this one and have not been able to get the sled running yet.. Only spent a few minutes working on it last night and Im back at work now so I can't do much but I'd like to get a few more miles on before the season comes to a close...

was a 3 amp fuse when mine just turned over in the fuse panel on the right side.

I would get the meter or a test lite out and check every fuse in your sled.

Ok... Now riddle me this batman...

I played with every wire, checked every connection, looked at every fuse, wiggled wires, disconnected the battery and reconnected it. All the while turning the key and just getting a click and no fuel pump. My wife comes out into the garage to talk to me, she leaves and I turn the key just for shits and giggles and BOOM, the fuel pump comes on....
So I wiggled every wire I could, looked at every connection and turning the key, each time the fuel pump came on like it should. So I put the sled all back together and tried to start it, it was flooded to the nuts, and wouldn't fire... I let it sit for 5 or 6 hours and tried again, got it running, rough at first while it burnt off the fuel, then ran perfect, took it for a little ride down the road and back and its running perfect... Never found what the issue was.... I looked at everything I could think of and everything seamed fine... I hope this dosn't happen again on the trail somewhere>>>>

Anyone got any ideas what happend to me... I worked on this 3 days with no results and then for no reason it starts working.... Im baffled...
