Skip the oil filter change??

Does anyone ever skip a season on changing the oil filter? I have never done this and I always change a filter anytime I change oil. I only put on 1200 miles so I was considering only changing the oil this time.

I just skipped my oil filter change...following OEM standards.

i changed oil late this season, only have 500 miles so i'm not changing filter but if i had 1000 or more i would change filter for peace of mind.
plus i,m going to put front end in the air, maybe some oil will drain back from filter?
 
Tod I have changed the filter everytime on mine. It's not that hard and gives you a chance to check things out ~ IMO ..
 
I skipped mine. 4645 miles this season and on filter. 10,700 on sled. I think they say do it every 12,000???? I think I'm sick of replacing things that aren't broke...I replaced all drive bearings...all looked perfect and rotated smoothly. I replaced donuts....didn't need to, they looked good. I changed out all the front bushings with Ulmers....did I need to? Front end is a lot tighter but only one of the bushings had visible wear. Will it make much of a difference? I'm going to get the clutches rebuilt....do I need to? Probably not but peace of mind.

The way I look at it, I don't ride through mud (very often!) or dust. I change the oil every 2000 miles and store it with fresh oil. (Mobil One)

Given the low mileage, there is no harm in skipping the filter change. The Yamaha reccomended oil change interval is many, many more miles. Due to the short riding season for most of us, the oil and filter are being changed much more frequently than actually needed.
 
Do you skip changing your underware everytime you take a shower (not Me) so dont skip your filter. IMO.
 
If my underwear took three hours to change, I wouldn't be changing those either.
 
45 mins at the most to change Oil and Filter.
 
Yea it's not that bad a job at all and ya might as well learn cause ya can't keep skipping the change.
Lot's of info here on how to to make it very simple.
There is a link somewere here on how to get down to the battery tray. Once thats out it's done.
My first time I was anxious about the whole thing but it ended up being easy.
 
thanks for the replies, I have changed it every season so I may as well keep it that way, just would make an hour job a 10 min job........
 
I agree with the bud man.I've waisted way to much money changing out parts that could have gone alot longer.Sliders wear fast at first but last along time,bearings,idler wheels,spark plugs,relays,donuts.You spend to much time on this site and you will have everything on your sled replaced.Do the filter so you learn how and you will be proud and happy you did and then next season maybe you won't.All the parts I have replaced could have gone easily two more seasons.
 
Take the hood off, both panels on right side, jack up sled, take off bottom cover, remove 2 drain plugs, drain engine, drain tank, replace drain plugs, fill with oil, replace the removed panels. In 10 minutes? WOW

We may have a new pit crew member tor Jeff Gordon.
 
Tod ya got all summer and fall to find an hour or so. filters catch all kinds of stuff. Not worth not doing it.
