Trying to change my y-pipes on my 07 Attack, I have losened the exhaust clamps at back of y-pipes but still cant get the y-pipe seperated from the exhaust pipe. Unbolted exhaust box and tried yanking but wont seperate. This is together super tight. Any suggestions or tricks to seperate the y-pipes from the exhaust pipe at the clamp joint would be appreciated. Help.

y-pipe removal

Here is a pic of where I can't get the y pipe to seperate from the exhaust pipe. Flex pipes are removed, muffler is unbolted just cant get the sucker to seperate. Help, any ideas?

They are usually a bear and take some cohersing to get separated.

I usually use some persuasion in the form of a heavy rubber mallet hits on the mufller. I stand behind the sled, with right hand, pull out on muffler, usually right by the exhaust pipe. With left hand, smack the left side of the muffler a few whacks..switch hands....grab and pull with left hand, smack it on right side of muffler...switch.....usually takes 3 or 4 cycles but it'll eventually come out.

Be careful not to loose any of the rubber bushings or the steel sleeves at the 4 points where you bolt the muffler to the tunnel. I usually pull those out right away since they usually fall out anyhow.

Some have thrown heat on it (the muffler side after sliding the clamps back and out of the way) and said that worked, but I have never found the need.
