Yamaha Canada are not putting in rear coolers for free on Apexes despite the addition of the item to the 09s. Rather they have put out a Tech Tip to the dealers with discounted rates for the cooler and the cooler protectors. For my Apex LTX, the cost is 200 for the cooler and 100 for the protectors plus taxes.

Does that price include install?

Because they should all have them, but thats Yamaha for ya.

No, parts only. Hey Daranello, I guess your Apex never overheated when everybody else's sled had no problem? Happened in my area alot. Due to the complaints, Yamaha added the rear coolers in 09, but I guess there were not enough complaints to justify it as a warranty issue in previous model years, but they are discounting them to keep happy customers in areas where overheating is more prevalent.

You call $200.00 for a rear cooler DISCOUNTED when I bought mine for my SNOW CHECK '08 APEX L-TX I paid $149.00 for a OEM...whats up with that, has it gone up that much, they probably boosted the price up and now say "we're going to discount for previous owners" to make them look good and basicly your paying the going PRICE...WOW
Oh. Well, maybe the price DOES include install. I will check with my dealer tomorrow. I just assumed it was the parts only.

I added the rear exchanger last year to my Attak. With the freeze-thaw cycles we go thru in the east I was seeing my warning light once & a while so decided to remedy it. I realize that newer models will have improvements over my older one anyways. Word of warning, if your track is studded make sure that the protectors used are sufficient to keep your studs away from your heat exchanger. Do a search under me as the author to see the issues I had last year. Its marked a bit now (dealership replaced the 1st one as I told them studs would hit & they guaranteed they wouldn't- sucks being right sometimes) . That is one of the reasons I am looking at the IceRipper XT this year.
blackattak, did you use the Yamaha protectors?
I double checked with my dealer and the prices mentioned above are parts only.

blackattak, I read your posts as suggested. Bottom line is we need 1 1/2 inch thick protectors to ensure that the studs do not hit, right? I will ask my dealer to shim the protectors before he installs them. One post in your thread says you lose rear shock travel with these installed. Did you notice this to be a problem? As a note, I find the suspension on my 08 very stiff and rarely bottom out even though I am 260 lbs.

I think your right on the calculation. I did notice a little more bottoming BUT better than destroying the heat exchanger. If the protectors are thicker they prevent the track from going up that high, thus you lose that amount of travel.
I have thought of revalving my shock but not done yet. I trail ride fairly agressively & really not much of an issue.
