My dealer contacted me today about a cooler for my RX1 Mountain sled. He told me that Yamaha was NOT going to help pay for this because Yamaha felt that there is no problem. Aprox cost is $88.00 with 2.5 hours of labor to install. I called Yamaha this evening and they verified that. I aksed why, and the lady said that Yamaha dosn't have an over heating problem with the RX1 Mountain or the Warrior. I asked why did Yamaha come up with a cooler then, and she said it was because so many customers had asked for one as an accessory. I then asked why she thought that was? Because this vehicle OVERHEATS!!!!! Not because the customers want to add weight or spend more money. I orded 1 anyhow. I WILL be installing it myself. Has anyone rode on the Artic Cat T-660 sled? God I don't want to change to another make, but damn I spent a lot of money on this sled and I think Yamaha should help out on this problem. The dealers can"t just order these kits yet for stock, NOOOO Yamaha makes them give your V.I.N. to order them.

We've had problems with overheating if running without scratchers on harder pack in warmer air conditions. Then it's shovel snow time to pack the rails or get off pack in some deeper snow to cool things down.

There is no overheating problem if its 10 degrees and your riding in 2 feet of powder. But they overheat bad when you are on packed snow. I stop every 5 minutes and pack snow on the rails. My friend put a rear heat exchanger on and he is running about 75 degrees cooler! I should have been stock.

I think it should be stock also as mine overheats on hard pack when following some one down a hard pack trial when going slow

I was not aware of a overheat problem except when left idling... How many people are having this issue??

You might want to look at the following thread elsewhere on this board:

Seems like the problem becomes more prevalent the more people get out and actually ride these sleds under a variety of conditions.

P.S For Yamaha to say there is no problem is just ignorant. It will happen any time the sled is not ridden in at least 4" of loose snow! It happened to me today in 5F conditions more times than I could tell you!

From the way the lady at Yamaha was talking, it was for the Mountain and Warrior. It still seems odd that they want the VIN to order the parts with if Yamaha dosen't want to do anything. Maybe it's a way for them to track what vehicles have them installed for any engine problems latter on.

Shorty or Warrior

To fit any cooler on the shorty is difficult because of the way the muffler drops down into the tunnel. It is not a flat surface and makes for a poor mount and also clearance issues with studs. With the long tracks you have the extension to mount in which gives you the flat surface to work with, much easier.

I overheated while trailering at 20 below. I over heated at zero today, there is an issue. I'm going to try and get a fix from my dealer. I'm tired of this problem!!

I must be the lucky one of the bunch. I have 1300+ miles on my RX-1 mtn with not a problem at all with overheating. I have even rode in bad enough conditions to cook two sets of hyfax (one in 150 miles). One trip the engine stayed cool enough to keep the light out while the '03 SXViper mtn my wife rode overheated four times on a 40 mile trail ride t6o get to the powder. Either you guys ride in worse conditions than I do or you have a coolant circulation problem.

I wonder if it is the same kit that Yamaha was supplying for the Viper overheat problem. I have a part number for that kit. The Viper kit is 8EK-RHECR-KT-00. It's about $50. Does anyone know if this heat exchanger will fit the Warrior (is it too wide, hose fittings the correct size, etc.)?
